Description

This role is 100% remote.  Travel 10-40% to vendors for testing development/oversight  (travel expected to be minimal early in role but will increase as design phases progress).
Compensation $120-160K+ (based on experience) plus full benefits.

Our client is a leader in the design and manufacture of custom-engineered pumps and motors for critical applications in power generation, nuclear research, and small modular reactor (SMR) development.  They design, engineer, and manufacture to order.

To support a large contract with a SMR to custom engineer and manufacture reactor pumps for a new build, they are expanding their Advanced Nuclear Group and have created a new opening for a Design Test Engineer

The person hired into this role will be responsible for developing testing, equipment qualification, factory acceptance testing, and commissioning activities. Work includes test planning, test artifact and fixture design, test execution, results analysis, and test report writing. 

Requirements:
  • Due to Federal Contract requirements, US Citizenship is required for this position.
  • BSME and 5+ years of experience related to testing and mechanical engineering design and analysis in the field of industrial rotating machinery such as pumps, turbines, or compressors
  • Concentration in the nuclear power generation industry
  • Background developing equipment testing programs, as opposed to implementing already established test procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of pertinent codes, governing regulations and industry practice. Demonstrated experience utilizing the ASME Code Section VIII or Section III and ASME QME-1 desired
  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering principles associated with the design, analysis, and operation of centrifugal pumps
  • Exposure to Solid Modeling (SolidWorks preferred), drafting and GD&T practices
  • Experience with ANSYS and MathCad preferred
  • Professional Engineer Registration or ability to gain registration

Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with subvendors to design and approve test plans and test procedures specific to subvendor supplied systems
  • Author, check, and approve documents and drawings as needed to support new unit testing
  • Incorporate test results including engineering and mechanical design, material selection, executing against established engineering design schedules, compliance to various design Codes and contract requirements, producing progress reports, and all other activities associated with unit design from an Engineering perspective
  • Ability to perform, check, approve, and mentor engineers in most types of calculations, design and analysis, and test validation using both computer aided and manual techniques
  • When not involved in test related activities, will support new product development (component design and analysis)
  • Ability to conduct stress analysis, evaluate strength of materials, materials science, vibration, and heat transfer.
