What you'll do

In the Space Data Network (SDN) Mission Operations Center (MOC) a technician acts as a vital operator within a centralized hub, responsible for brokering user services and managing mission plans across the entire SDN-B architecture. Utilizing a hybrid on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure, the technician will provision, orchestrate, and control network transport services while serving as the primary interface for processing user service requests. Their daily activities include monitoring the health, status, and performance of all ground and space assets to ensure end-to-end service performance and maintain a common operational picture for enterprise-wide situational awareness. Operating within a Government-Owned, Contractor-Operated (GOCO) framework, the technician ensures the network remains adaptable and integrated by following a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA).

The day-to-day

As an SDN MOC Technician, you'll:

• Monitor the health of the network and respond to support requests, alarms, alerts, and troubleshooting needs in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and MOC supervisory guidance
• Respond to alerts and work with SDN-B MOC DevOps teams to fix anomalies in the network within the MOC boundaries
• Perform all preventative and corrective maintenance to meet or exceed the specified system availability requirements
• Engage in specialized training to enhance MOC Technician skills. Review and refine training/processes/procedures for technical precision
• Monitor government users and network operations, addressing terminal, provider, and network concerns
• Actively monitor and resolve issues, maintaining direct communication with customers
• Take charge of cases from start to finish, showcasing your deep understanding of all platforms within the MOC
• Solve network issues, collaborating closely with various networks, customers, and vendors as necessary
• Other duties as assigned by Program and MOC leadership.

What you'll need

• 4+ years of experience in IP networking, satellite communications, or cloud services, with a knack for resolving hardware and software issues
• 3 years in a Technical Support or NOC role
• Possess functional experience with Windows/Linux, firewall and endpoint security, BGP/OSPF/VLAN, enterprise hardware (Cisco/Palo Alto), cloud (AWS/Azure), and SDN/SDWAN expertise
• Flexibility to work shifts in a 24x7 setting, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Proven communication prowess to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
• Proficiency with Network Monitoring Systems
• An Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience
• Must be a U.S. citizen, as this is a government position
• Current or attainable DoD 8570 certification IAT Level II (CCNA-Security, CySA , GICSP, GSEC, Security CE, or SSCP) within 6 months of hire
• Active DoD TS/SCI clearance
• Willingness to travel up to 25%

What will help you on the job

• A solid foundation of 3+ years in RF or satellite communications
• Hands-on experience with CRM and defect tracking systems, like Service Now or JIRA
• A strong preference for candidates with UNIX/LINUX configuration skills and the ability to capture and analyze network traces
• A team-oriented attitude, with a readiness to collaborate in a distributed team environment
• Current certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Sec+, or Net+
• Demonstrable ability to execute precise command strings and manage addressing and device names within NMS interfaces
• A typing speed of at least 40 words per minute, ensuring efficient communication and documentation.

Salary range

$38.46 - $60.82 / hourly. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $47.84 - $71.88/ hourly
