QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, valid Alaska Type ?A.' Type ?C' certificate with endorsement in K-12 Guidance Counselor accepted under certain conditions.
  • Experience working with Native American students and Peer Counseling programs preferred.
  • Experience in career and crisis counseling, behavior management.

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: To provide personal, crisis, and career counseling services to students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: communicate effectively with students, parents and all staff members; provide individual and small group counseling and classroom presentations in a school setting, as well as crisis intervention as needed, with documentation is a weekly log; implement programs, training and services on topics such as substance abuse, suicide prevention/intervention, pregnancy and abuse as evidenced in appropriate documentation; in cooperation with site administrator, oversee graduation status and alternative and dual credits and place in cumulative files; maintain a career portfolio for 6th through 12th grade students; assist in maintaining up-to-date cumulative files with with appropriate documentation; create and maintain schedules for middle and high school students throughout the year; assist students in post-secondary planning and provide career education; administer and track progress with Work Keys; in cooperation with the site administrator, refer students and parents to appropriate agencies for assistance; assist staff in development/implementation of students transition and management plans; promote and support School District Goals as developed by the Board of Education; develop an awareness of local culture and provide instruction that is bicultural or multicultural by responding to diverse community interests and needs; abide by the code of ethics and the professional teaching standards adopted by the Professional Teaching Practice Commission of the State; adhere all District policies and regulations; perform such other tasks and assume responsibilities as the supervisor may assign.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board Policy.

LENGTH OF POSITION: 190 days, begins August 10, 2026

SALARY: Depending on experience / negotiated salary schedule
