Job Story
NIAR’s Hub for Advanced Manufacturing and Research (HAMR) is seeking a student with strong communication, organization, and customer service skills to support facility operations.

Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties
This role focuses on ensuring a smooth day-to-day experience for building occupants and visitors by checking and stocking amenities (e.g., coffee and soda supplies), assisting with events and tour scheduling and preparation, and supporting package/mail tracking and occupant notifications. Depending on building needs, the student may assist other staff, help coordinate activities for visitors and partners, and provide support throughout the HAMR facility. The position may also assist with general coordination tasks across HAMR and provide support for special events as needed. This position is ideal for students interested in gaining hands-on operations and customer service experience in a dynamic research environment.
Under supervision, students will:
• Support daily facility operations, including opening/closing procedures, cleanliness checks, and readiness of common areas.
• Check, stock, and track amenities (coffee, soda, snacks, paper goods), monitor inventory levels, and coordinate reorders with staff.
• Assist with scheduling and preparing for events and tours, including room reservations, A/V checks, signage, seating layouts, and setup/teardown.
• Assist visitors and tour groups, manage check-ins, and provide wayfinding support.
• Track incoming packages/mail and promptly notify building occupants; maintain logs and coordinate internal deliveries as directed.
• Maintain shared calendars and documentation, including event schedules, inventory records, and standard operating procedures.
• Support special events at HAMR with onsite logistics and customer service.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent

Additional Requirements
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Excellent organization, attention to detail, and reliability.
• Experience with event setup or facilities support (preferred but not required).
• Comfort with inventory management and basic tracking tools (e.g., Excel, SharePoint).
• Basic knowledge of A/V equipment setup.
• Ability to work collaboratively, take initiative, and meet deadlines.

Additional Information
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
Ability to move, transport, and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment.
Students must have their own transportation, as some local travel between facilities may be required.

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
