QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree from a recognized, accredited college or university, with additional graduate study or a Master's degree preferred;

  2. Valid Texas teacher's certificate with an ESL Endorsement;

  3. Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as an ESL teacher; "Newcomer" experience preferred.

  4. Demonstrated skill in leading, motivating, coaching and cooperating with other teachers;

  5. Successful experience with at-risk students and flexible regrouping language arts;

  6. Communication skills in Spanish or other languages preferred

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract: 197 days

SALARY:

IA-3: $67,640

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. To work with Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Special Populations to support the New Arrival Center (NAC) in accelerating the acquisition of the English language.

  2. To supervise the placement of all students in the NAC.

  3. To assist teachers in the NAC with implementing the Language Acquisition Curriculum.

  4. To track the progress of current and former NAC students.

  5. To monitor the NAC with data analysis.

  6. To mentor and observe NAC teachers and provide feedback.

  7. To model lessons in the classroom.

  8. To provide on-going staff development training and assistance to NAC teachers in the implementation of instructional strategies in the classroom.

  9. To provide new NAC teacher and paraprofessional training.

  10. To work with Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Special Populations on curriculum development.

  11. To work on assessment instruments for the NAC.

  12. To assist Director and Coordinators on staff development days.

  13. To work with ESL contacts to provide and coordinate materials.

  14. To assist with the implementation and supervision of summer school programs.

  15. Other duties as assigned by the Director.

  16. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
