A Brief Overview

This position is 36 hours a week, nightshift.

The Neurodiagnostic Specialist II is an advanced level specialist position. The Neurodiagnostic Specialist II is responsible for all the duties outlined in the job title Neurodiagnostic Specialist I. Additionally, the specialist must possess the training and expertise required to independently perform advanced neurophysiologic procedures including intraoperative corticoelectroencephalography, intraoperative cortical stimulation, and intraoperative evoked cortical potential procedures. The Neurodiagnostic Specialist II is responsible for training EEG Technologists/EEG externs. Training includes all neurophysiologic procedures involved in the operation of the inpatient EEG monitoring unit, including Phase 1 surface electroencephalographic studies, Phase 2 subdural studies, and any other studies deemed necessary by the Neurodiagnostic Manager and/or Medical Director. The Neurodiagnostic Specialist II must be able to work independently under the supervision of the EEG Manager and/or Medical Director.

What you will do

• Performs duties of the Neurodiagnostic Technologist I and the Neurodiagnostic Specialist I that includes routine EEGs, ambulatory, research EEG's, magno-electroencephalography, and LTM studies.
• Prepares patients and families for Video/EEG studies.
• Performs Video/EEG studies.
• Calibrates equipment and makes necessary adjustments.
• Checks all observed and computer detected seizures.
• Prepares daily readings for doctor analysis.
• Makes master copies of all patient events.
• Organizes patient files, reports, and seizure logs.
• Coordinates procedures with neurologists, neurology nurse practitioners, and staff nurses.
• Provides maintenance and quality assurance for Video/EEG and ambulatory equipment.
• Performs routine, portable EEGs, when necessary.
• Performs ambulatory/VAMB studies, when necessary.
• Maintains flexible schedule to meet special needs of patient care.
• Will have flexible schedule at all times.
• Daily flexible rotating schedule/rotating working weekends.
• Responsible for conducting intraoperative neurophysiologic procedures.
• Assists neurophysiologist in intraoperative neurophysiologic procedures, including cortical electroencephalography and intraoperative cortical stimulation
• Maintains equipment for intraoperative studies in optimal working condition.
• Makes montages specific to the patient.
• Wraps head of surgical patient.
• Trains Junior and Senior EEG Technologists in Video/EEG, and all other studies, to be fully functional and competent in the goals set for LTM, electrocorticography, cortical stimulation, and intraoperative surgical procedures.
• Responsible for bedside electroencephalographic studies including:
• Motor strip mapping.
• Language mapping.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED Required
• Technical Diploma EEG Technology Preferred
• Associate's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications

• At least five (5) years prior EEG experience Preferred
• At least two (2) years pediatric EEG experience Preferred
• At least three (3) years EEG experience of video EEG working in an LTM unit. Preferred

• Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
• Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and protocol.
• Working knowledge of MS Word or equivalent software.

Licenses and Certifications

• Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (EEG) - American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Envoked Potential Technologist (ABRET) - upon hire - Required

SALARY RANGE:

$42.18 - $47.44 Hourly
