Description

Network Installation and Cabling Engineer Lead:

This is a position with strong experience in enterprise scale network deployment and cabling projects. Under liberal supervision, the consultant performs a wide variety of remote and field activities associated with planning, surveying, installing, and cabling of network equipment in the field. Typically handles moderately complex products and/or problems, and experienced providing onsite and remote guidance and quality oversight to network and cabling installers.
Responsibilities:
  • Designs and documents network installations, rack elevations, patch matrices (cable run lists), and deployment and migration methods and procedures documents. 
  • Performs wireless designs and predictive surveys using NetSpot or Ekahau tools
  • Provides work instruction and onsite or remote quality assurance oversight to Level I – IV onsite cabling crews and network installers in the field.
  • Lead troubleshooting and escalation efforts during deployments and cutovers.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews and acceptance testing.
  • Oversees onsite teams performing site surveys, additions, removals, and modifications on working equipment. Work operations/job activities may include:
    • Equipment & cable site survey
    • Generate site survey report
    • Rack / Cabinet installation
    • Network equipment installation
    • Copper patch cabling
    • Cable labeling
    • Cable management/dressing
    • Network equipment relocation
    • Software additions or upgrades
Skills & Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of structured cabling and network hardware installation experience.
  • Experience with copper and fiber termination and testing.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and cable schedules.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, cable testers, and installation equipment.
  • Ability to lift equipment and work in ceilings, ladders, and telecommunications spaces.
  • Requires strong technical knowledge of current Cisco network and wireless products with minimal training.
  • Familiarity and experience with copper and fiber cabling and installation to BICSI and ANSI/TIA standards
  • Sound knowledge of the phases of the product installation.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Visio to document networks and cable patch matrices
Education and Experience Required:
  • Electronics training equivalent to 2 years of technical trade school or military school and 4 years of field service, or equivalent 
  • Typically, a minimum of 3 years of experience as a network deployment and/or cabling technician, engineer, or consultant.
  • Proficiency in network routing and switching basics (e.g. VLAN configurations).
Travel/Shift Requirements:
  • Remote worker.  Flexibility for travel within the US required for onsite client service delivery.
  • US Time Zone standard work hours with flexibility to meet with resources in multiple US time zones when required.
 
Wage Range:  The annual starting salary for this position is between $71,250– $95,000 annually.  Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
