Network Engineer, Systems IV

Position Description

Seneca Resources is seeking a senior-level Network Engineer to provide hands-on engineering and operational support for a secure, on-prem research and test network environment. This role is ideal for a high-performing engineer who enjoys troubleshooting complex infrastructure, improving performance and security, and building reliable connectivity across enterprise networks and cloud environments (AWS/Azure).

You'll work heavily with routing/switching, secure network services, hardening/compliance, and network monitoring-supporting mission-critical systems where uptime, security, and precision matter.

Work environment: 100% onsite in San Diego, CA, including an on-call rotation with a requirement to be onsite within 2 hours if needed after hours/weekends/holidays.

Job Responsibilities (What You'll Do)

• Provide day-to-day engineering and operational support for a secure physical network environment (routers/switches), including installations, upgrades, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
• Maintain security posture and compliance, including STIG implementation and firmware/software updates
• Monitor and analyze network performance at physical and packet levels using tools such as inMon Traffic Sentinel and Zabbix
• Design and maintain multi-cloud network connectivity (AWS/Azure): IP space, VLANs, route tables, VPCs/VNETs, gateways, and peering
• Configure and support routing and tunneling technologies including OSPF, BGP, and IPsec
• Prototype, install, and support routing/distribution and boundary security solutions (notably HPE Aruba and Palo Alto)
• Implement and manage Network Access Control (NAC) and security protocols (e.g., Aruba ClearPass, 802.1X, and Zero Trust concepts like dynamic segmentation)
• Support enterprise wireless infrastructure for indoor/outdoor coverage
• Build test environments, execute test plans, document results, and drive corrective actions with vendors as needed

Required Skills / Education

• Active Secret clearance (required)

• IAT Level II certification (one required): CySA+, CompTIA Security+, CCNA Security, GICSP, GSEC, or SSCP

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

• 10+ years of network engineering experience in enterprise environments

• Strong expertise in:

• Routing & Switching, VLANs, IP addressing, network troubleshooting

• OSPF / BGP

• IPsec / secure tunneling

• Network security hardening / compliance (STIG experience highly relevant)

• Comfortable supporting after-hours on-call and working fully onsite in San Diego

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

• Experience with inMon Traffic Sentinel and/or Zabbix
• Experience with Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager, NAC, and 802.1X
• Hands-on exposure to Zero Trust networking / dynamic segmentation
• Enterprise wireless networking experience
• Scripting/automation using Python and/or PowerShell
