Network Engineer

Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to design, implement, maintain, and secure the organization's network infrastructure to ensure reliable, high-performing, and scalable connectivity. This role supports business operations by minimizing downtime, optimizing network performance, enabling secure access to systems and data, and providing the technical foundation required for current and future technology initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project sponsors to determine project scope and vision.
• Participate in software selection and vendor evaluation processes.
• Lead network-related projects, including upgrades, expansions, and migrations.
• Assist with planning, scheduling, testing, and implementation of network changes.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and technology refresh efforts.
• Participate in security improvement initiatives, such as segmentation and zero-trust efforts.
• Work directly with business leaders to capture incoming requests and translate them into concrete deliverables.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external team members.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including diagrams and configurations.
• Document incidents, changes, and solutions in ticketing and knowledge management systems.
• Communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Provide regular updates on network status, risks, and improvements to management and team members.
• Work with technical resources and vendor support to troubleshoot and resolve application issues.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve network performance, connectivity, and security issues.
• Provide tier 2/3 network support for LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and internet connectivity.
• Respond to incidents, outages, and service requests in accordance with SLAs.
• Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and patching of network infrastructure.
• Configure, manage, and maintain network firewalls and security appliances.
• Monitor firewall performance, availability, and security events.
• Apply firewall rule changes and updates following change management processes.
• Support secure remote access and site-to-site connectivity.
• Design scalable, secure, and resilient network solutions for business needs.
• Evaluate new technologies and vendors to improve network performance and reliability.
• Establish and develop network design standards and best practices.
• Ensure network designs align with security standards and compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with architecture, security, and application teams for integrated solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
• Participate in change management, risk assessments, and technical review.
• Promote best practices for network security and operational excellence.
• Willing to work additional or irregular hours as needed.
• Participate in on-call rotation or be available for system support after normal business hours.
• Perform cross-functional duties as assigned.
• The primary work arrangement for this position is remote; however, occasional in-office presence may be required for meetings or specific projects and support.

Required Skills & Experience

• Five years of experience in network engineering or network administration.
• Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and architectures.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise networking equipment, such as Cisco, Meraki, and Palo Alto.
• Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
• Understanding of network security principles and best practices.
• Experience in requirements gathering, design, development, and gap analysis.
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Attention to detail and commitment to reliability and security.
• Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
• Scripting or automation experience, such as Python, PowerShell, and Ansible.
• Experience in high-availability and disaster recovery network designs.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience in project management and team leadership.
• Experience with cloud networking, such as Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.
• Knowledge of network security best practices and frameworks.
