Network Engineer 3 (LAN / WAN / Data Center)

Job Summary
The Network Engineer 3 is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, optimization, and support of enterprise LAN, WAN, Data Center, backbone, and cloud-connected network infrastructure. This role serves as a key contributor to enterprise networking initiatives, ensuring the stability, security, performance, and availability of critical network services supporting global business operations.
The ideal candidate will possess strong experience supporting large-scale enterprise network environments, including routing, switching, network security, cloud connectivity, capacity management, data center networking, and operational excellence. This individual will partner closely with infrastructure, security, architecture, and operations teams to design and implement highly available networking solutions while supporting enterprise modernization and transformation initiatives. Experience supporting highly regulated environments and large-scale infrastructure programs is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Network Engineering & Design
Network Operations & Support
Manage production network infrastructure, including:
Internet Protocol (IP) backbone networks
Data center networks
Edge Points of Presence (PoPs)
Global enterprise connectivity services
Ensure continuous availability and operational stability of network services.
Execute network changes utilizing established enterprise change management processes.
Monitor network health and proactively identify service-impacting risks and issues.
Investigate and resolve network capacity, performance, and connectivity issues.
Provide impact analysis and remediation recommendations for network incidents and outages.
Support complex multi-domain enterprise environments with mission-critical availability requirements.
Routing, Switching & Data Center Technologies
Design, configure, and support enterprise routing and switching environments.
Implement and maintain:
BGP (Border Gateway Protocol)
OSPF (Open Shortest Path First)
Static Routing
Configure and support modern network platforms, including:
Cisco Nexus
Arista Networks
Support Data Center network architectures and high-availability designs.
Participate in network testing and validation efforts to ensure operational readiness and service reliability.
Support infrastructure modernization and data center transformation programs.
Network Security
Implement network security policies and controls across routers, switches, and firewalls.
Support enterprise DDoS mitigation strategies and network protection efforts.
Configure and maintain:
Access Control Lists (ACLs)
Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF)
DDoS Virtual Connect solutions
Apply security and regulatory requirements when designing and implementing network solutions.
Partner with cybersecurity teams to improve enterprise network security posture.
Integrate networking infrastructure with enterprise security tools and cloud security platforms.
Support security automation and infrastructure security initiatives.
Cloud Networking & Infrastructure
Support hybrid networking environments across on-premise and cloud platforms.
Assist with design and support of network connectivity within:
Microsoft Azure
Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Partner with cloud engineering teams to implement secure, scalable cloud networking architectures.
Support cloud infrastructure automation and network security initiatives.
Capacity Planning & Reliability Engineering
Automation & Infrastructure Modernization
Utilize automation and scripting technologies to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
Develop automation solutions using:
Python
YAML
Ansible
GitHub
Support network automation initiatives and infrastructure modernization efforts.
Maintain automation documentation and standards.
Contribute to infrastructure-as-code, automation framework development, and platform automation programs.
Support DevOps and DevSecOps-driven infrastructure engineering initiatives.
Change Management & Documentation
Prepare comprehensive implementation plans, rollback procedures, and maintenance documentation.
Participate in change management reviews and approval processes.
Utilize ServiceNow for change control, workflow management, and implementation tracking.
Create and maintain detailed network diagrams and technical documentation utilizing:
Microsoft Visio
Microsoft Office Suite
Ensure documentation aligns with enterprise engineering standards and operational processes.
Collaboration & Leadership
Required Qualifications
4+ years of Network Engineering experience or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education.
3+ years of experience designing and implementing LAN, WAN, and Data Center networking solutions in large enterprise environments.
3+ years of experience supporting IP routing technologies, including:
BGP
OSPF
Static Routing
3+ years of experience implementing DDoS mitigation strategies and configuring ACLs in enterprise environments.
3+ years of experience supporting modern routing and switching platforms, including:
Cisco Nexus
Arista Networks
Experience with network security controls, including:
ACLs
VRFs
DDoS Virtual Connect
Network Segmentation
Experience utilizing enterprise change management processes.
Demonstrated ability to create and maintain technical design documentation.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to make decisions quickly in high-volume, mission-critical environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Enterprise Infrastructure, Cloud & Automation Experience
Additional Preferred Qualifications
CCNA Certification.
CCNP Data Center Certification.
CCIE Data Center Certification.
Experience with data center modernization initiatives.

The ideal candidate is an experienced enterprise network engineer with expertise in LAN, WAN, Data Center, cloud networking, and network security technologies. This individual possesses strong routing and switching knowledge, hands-on experience supporting Cisco Nexus and Arista platforms, and a proven ability to design, implement, and maintain highly available network environments.
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills, experience supporting enterprise change management processes, knowledge of DDoS mitigation and network security controls, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple infrastructure teams while driving automation, cloud adoption, operational excellence, and infrastructure modernization efforts. Experience supporting large-scale enterprise programs and highly regulated environments is strongly preferred.
