    Description

    Application deadline: Oct 21, 2026

Amazon"s network is a key differentiator for AWS, enabling the global operation of thousands of applications across hundreds of thousands of servers worldwide. Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) extends that platform to the U.S. Government"s most sensitive workloads, delivering AWS inside air-gapped, classified regions where the bar for reliability, security, and operational rigor is at its highest.

We are looking for a Network Development Manager to hire, manage, and develop a team of Network Development Engineers responsible for the end-to-end operational health of the ADC network. You will own capacity management and forecast planning, implementation, automation, change control, process management, and continuous improvement across the classified partitions. You will represent networking to service teams, infrastructure partners, and government stakeholders, ensuring we meet their needs for innovation, delivery, and safe operations in an environment where the margin for error is small and much of the tooling and telemetry commercial teams rely on has to be built.

At Amazon, we ask our technical leaders to be strong engineers who dive deep and help their engineers make sound decisions and deliver quality solutions. You will maintain a solid technical understanding of routing, switching, optical transport, and network automation, and ensure the right expertise exists on the team. You will also be a thoughtful people manager who mentors your engineers and builds an environment of mutual trust and respect, which matters even more in ADC where teams are smaller, more isolated, and carry a heavier operational load per person. The ideal candidate has a track record of driving operations and continuous improvement for large-scale, mission-critical networks, a passion for operational excellence, and the judgment to safely implement change, measure performance, and respond to events so the network always operates as intended.

The candidate selected must obtain and maintain a security clearance at the TS/SCI with polygraph level. Upon start, the selected candidate will be sponsored for a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Own the end-to-end operational health of the ADC network across the classified partitions: availability, performance, change control, and continuous improvement.
    • Hire, develop, and retain a team of Network Development Engineers; own onboarding, career growth, 1:1s, and mentoring.
    • Run a sustainable on-call rotation that honors SLAs without burning out a small classified-region team.
    • Ensure network changes are designed, reviewed, and executed safely at scale under ADC"s access and change-control constraints.
    • Drive incidents and availability risks to resolution, and own Correction of Error (COE) follow-through so problems do not recur.
    • Manage operations with data, metrics, and dashboards; build the monitoring, automation, and tooling ADC has historically lacked.
    • Define and deliver team goals, align resources, and report status and risk to leadership.
    • Close parity gaps with commercial AWS and contribute an ADC lens to standard planning (OP1/OP2).
    • Represent networking to service, infrastructure, and government stakeholders so dependencies and deliverables are met.

    A day in the life

You lead a team of Network Development Engineers operating AWS"s network inside classified regions. A typical day mixes 1:1s and career coaching with reviewing network changes, walking through an incident or COE with an engineer, and unblocking cross-team dependencies. You spend time on the metrics that show where the network and the team need attention, and on the tooling, automation, and monitoring ADC is still building. You balance day-to-day operations against longer-term parity and capacity goals, and you represent networking to service, infrastructure, and government partners. You also participate in a management on-call escalation rotation.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
