Purpose of Classification
The purpose of this classification is to perform advanced technical work in the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of local and wide area network systems. This position ensures optimal network performance, security, and availability while providing technical support to users on hardware, software, and network-related issues.
Essential Functions

Administers and maintains various computer network operating systems; monitors system performance, capacity, and availability to ensure efficient operation.
Monitors and analyzes network components including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems to verify proper operation
Provides help desk and technical support services to staff, troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues
Establishes and manages user accounts, permissions, and access controls to maintain network security
Diagnoses and resolves issues related to computer hardware, network infrastructure, databases, and peripheral devices
Performs system testing, upgrades, and maintenance; implements modifications to improve system performance and reliability
Installs, configures, and deploys computer hardware, software applications, and network components
Supports remote access technologies including VPNs and secure connectivity solutions
Installs, relocates, and maintains network cable and equipment based on organizational needs
Upgrades and replacement of network hardware and software components to enhance performance and capacity
Assists in database configuration and maintenance for departmental systems
Researches, evaluates, and recommends hardware/software purchases; prepares requisitions and supports documentation
Monitors data backup systems: perform file restoration and disaster recovery operations as needed
Schedules and manages data archiving and storage processes
Utilizes technical documentation, manuals, and online resources to support troubleshooting and system improvements

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS/ENVIORNMENTAL FACTORS
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight, ten (10) pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Requirements: tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as traffic hazards.

The City pays the entire premium for an eligible employee. The employee may elect to cover a spouse and/or dependent children by paying the applicable premium for the dependent(s).

Vacation
All full-time employees accrue time toward paid vacation leave. Accrual begins immediately and vacation may be taken after six months of employment.

The City observes 12 paid holidays throughout the year.
Sick Leave / Family Sick Leave
Full-time employees accrue one day of sick leave per month. An employee may elect to use up to 5 days per year of accrued sick time for illness in his/her immediate family.
