About the Role:
Overview NETA Field Service Technician – Electrical Testing will be responsible for conducting comprehensive electrical testing, preventive maintenance, and repair services on a wide range of electrical distribution systems and equipment. The technician will collaborate closely with a skilled team of professionals to ensure that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality and industry standards.


SSS is seeking  NETA Field Service Technicians to join our growing team.


Responsibilities


  • Field Service Test Technicians travel directly to customer sites across industrial and commercial sectors to thoroughly inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up procedures, and collect critical operational data on low, medium, and high voltage (480 Volt to 500 kV) electrical systems
  • Conduct precise instrument transformer tests to verify accuracy and performance.
  • Perform comprehensive power transformer testing using industry-standard methods including Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, and related diagnostics.
  • Test and evaluate electro-mechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based relays to ensure proper functionality and compliance.
  • Execute advanced cable testing procedures including Tan Delta, VLF, and DC Hipot analysis.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot DC control circuits, such as relay circuits, to minimize customer downtime.
  • Perform thorough testing of low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers across a wide range of configurations.
  • Carry out moderately complex relay calibration and precision power metering tasks.
  • Participate in rotating emergency on-call duty, responding promptly and professionally to customer emergencies as they arise.
Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Must be able to commute daily within the local and regional area, with availability for periodic overnight travel as project needs require.
  • An Associate's degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, or equivalent training from military service (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or Navy Seabee) is strongly preferred.
  • NETA Certification (Level I, II, III, or IV) or a comparable industry credential is highly desired.
  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on, relevant experience performing switchgear testing and troubleshooting is required.
  • Proficient PC skills are necessary, including email communication, internet research, data entry, and Microsoft Excel; prior experience with PowerDB software is a plus.
  • Must demonstrate a consistent commitment to working safely and adhering to all established electrical safety procedures and protocols.
  • OSHA 30-Hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, and CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED certifications are preferred; SSS is prepared to provide training in each of these areas as needed.
Other Requirements:


  • Must be able to maintain a Drug-Free status; a pre-employment hair follicle drug test and periodic unannounced random drug screenings will be required.
  • Must successfully pass an acceptable pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Must be physically capable of crawling, climbing, standing, walking, and lifting  up to 75 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations, and must be able to pass a fit-for-duty physical examination.
  • You must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean, acceptable driving record throughout employment.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours including overtime, and available for occasional weekends, holidays, and night shifts as operational demands require.
  • Must not currently require, nor anticipate future need for, employment sponsorship to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must be willing to travel; a minimum travel commitment of 40% is expected.
