ABOUT THE ROLE

WE WILL TRAIN YOU IN NDT…

This is a role for a talented, detail-oriented journeyman level technician who is done assisting and ready to lead. You’ll run MAE inspections from start to finish, direct junior technicians, and be the subject-matter expert in the field.

Quantum Fuel Systems operates at the intersection of mechanical rigor and clean energy, testing and recertifying compressed natural gas and hydrogen cylinders used in Quantum VP trailers. As a Level 2 MAE Technician, you’ll work with minimal supervision, owning the full inspection cycle and providing expert field service support. If you’ve already earned your Level 2 NDT certification and are looking for a role that actually uses it, this is it.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

  • Plan and execute MAE inspections with minimal supervision, from test setup through final report
  • Direct Level 1 technicians during inspection activities and field operations
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret acoustic emission data to evaluate system safety and performance
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain compliance with established procedures
  • Troubleshoot and repair Quantum fuel systems at our Midland, Texas facility.
  • Conduct maintenance on customer vehicles, trailers, and alternative-fuel systems
  • Travel domestically for inspections and field service

Requirements

  • NDT Level 2 certification in Acoustic Emission (or equivalent MAE qualification) WE WILL TRAIN THIS.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills; comfortable directing others in the field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent; ASE certification or technical school preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record; Class A CDL (or ability to obtain one)
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office basics: Outlook, Excel, Word
  • Fluent in English, written and verbal
  • Able to travel and work in varying field conditions
  • Able to pass the Texas RRC CNG Service Installation exam

Bonus: Experience with high-pressure gas or CNG systems, an existing TRRC CNG certification, or prior work on compressed hydrogen storage systems will set you apart.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED

  • Associates degree in an engineering field, or equivalent industry. NDT (Non Destructive Testing) experience accepted.
  • Proven experience planning and executing AE inspections independently
  • Basic understanding of nondestructive testing principles and acoustic emission.
  • Certification: MAE Level 1 (per ASNT, ISO 9712, or equivalent) preferred but not required, training will be provided.
  • Candidate lives close to the worksite (Midland / Odessa, Texas area).
  • Certified by TRRC for CNG Service Installation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position involves both office and field work. Duties may include working from heights, standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, crouching, working in elevated spaces. Frequent use of hands is required for handling tools, sensors, and computer equipment. Vision requirements include color vision, close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The role may involve lifting up to 50 pounds, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and traveling to customer sites domestically and internationally.

A post-offer, pre-employment color vision screening will be conducted.
