Pay Range: $16.50 - $23.50/hr based on experience and qualifications

Summary
The NC Pre-K Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a high-quality early childhood education program that meets NC Pre-K and North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) standards. The Assistant Teacher helps create a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of preschool-aged children.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the Lead Teacher in implementing the NC Pre-K curriculum and daily lesson plans
  • Assist with classroom management and maintaining a positive, structured learning environment
  • Help supervise children at all times, including classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, and transitions
  • Support children’s social-emotional development and positive behavior guidance strategies
  • Assist with classroom observations, documentation, and child assessments as directed
  • Help prepare and organize learning materials and classroom environments
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and assist with required documentation
  • Support children with personal care routines (toileting, handwashing, meals, rest time)
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with families and staff
  • Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development
  • Maintain confidentiality of children and families
 
Education and Experience
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Physical and Negative TB Screening
  • At least 6 months of relevant experience or educational equivalency
  • ABCMS Background Check clearance
 
Working Conditions
  • Direct interaction with children, with exposure to childhood illnesses
  • Frequent standing, bending, lifting and movement
  • Supervision and participation in outdoor activities year-round
