    Job Story
    The Public Policy and Management Center (PPMC) at Wichita State University is looking for a Graduate Student Assistant to support the Talent & Professional Services team. The PPMC organizes many recurring (annual) and one-time public service events/conferences for clients across the state including (but not limited to):

    • Kansas County Clerks and Election Officials Association,
    • City Clerks and Municipal Finance Officers Association (CCMFOA)
    • Kansas Government Finance Officers Association
    • Kansas Museums Association
    • State of KS Department of Commerce
    • Sedgwick County
    • City of Wichita

    The ideal candidate for this position is proactive, detail oriented, organized, and a collaborative worker. This role is a good opportunity for students interested in developing customer service skills and event/project coordination skills.

    Job Summary
    A Graduate Staff Assistant (GSA) assistants university service and academic units in either non-teaching or non-research activities. Specific duties of the GSA vary widely, depending on the administrative or academic unit to which they are assigned, but should be at a level to make use of their education and abilities.

    Job Duties
    This student will work with PPMC staff to complete:

    Pre-event tasks
    o Coordinating with the hosts, guests, and speakers
    o Preparing nametags, swag, and other materials
    o Setting up event locations

    Day-of event support
    o Set up and tear down
    o Greeting guests and assisting with check-in/registration
    o Technology assistance
    o General event assistance
    o Taking notes

    Post event support
    o Transcribing meeting notes/data entry
    o Generating certificates of completion
    o Report writing and assistance

    Required Education
    Bachelor's degree

    Required Experience
    To be eligible for an assistantship, students must be admitted to a degree program in either full or conditional standing. Students admitted on probation or placed on academic probation following admission may be eligible for assistantship awards under certain circumstances.

    Additional Information
    20 hours per week
    o Flexible schedule based on classes; however, dates for events during the Fall 2026 semester have already been established and can be discussed during the interview process.
    o The student will typically work within general office hours (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.); exceptions occur for specific events that will be discussed in advance.
    • Start date: ASAP
    • Term: Fall 2026 academic semester with the potential to renew for Spring/Summer semesters.

    Physical Requirements
    Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
