Position Overview
The Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) is seeking an experienced Programming Analyst/Application Developer to support the EBT/EFITS team. This role is responsible for developing, enhancing, and maintaining mission-critical enterprise applications built on Natural/Adabas technologies.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience developing complex, multi-tier applications, collaborating with business stakeholders, analyzing requirements, and delivering scalable technical solutions throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). This position also participates in an on-call support rotation to ensure the continued reliability of critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise applications using Natural/Adabas.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Collaborate with business users and stakeholders to identify system enhancements and process improvements.
- Develop and maintain SQL queries and database objects to support application functionality.
- Participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including:
- Requirements Analysis
- System Design
- Development
- Quality Assurance & Testing
- Implementation
- Production Support & Maintenance
- Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolution.
- Participate in the team's rotating on-call support schedule.
- Contribute to continuous process improvement and technical best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience developing enterprise applications using Natural/Adabas.
- Strong experience with SQL development.
- Experience with SCL in a Linux environment.
- Advanced experience designing, implementing, and enhancing large-scale Natural applications.
- Experience gathering and documenting business requirements in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Ability to recommend technical solutions and drive issue resolution.
- Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- 7+ years of hands-on experience supporting State Department of Human Services (DHS) systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with the following is highly desirable:
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Unix/Linux operating systems
- Agile methodologies (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban, XP)
- Experience working within government or public sector environments
- Additional Linux administration experience
