Position Title Native Pathways Program Adjunct Faculty (Pool) Job Summary

The Native Pathways Program (NPP) is an undergraduate degree earning program that focuses on Indigenous and western content through an Indigenous pedagogy lens. Together, as a team, NPP faculty develop curriculum that fits our interdisciplinary and Indigenous framework together.

We are seeking qualified individuals for between 4-12 credits per quarter to teach broadly in Native American and Indigenous studies and Indigenous Humanities.

This could include teaching in the core NPP, a 12-credit interdisciplinary team-taught course. Instruction may be remote or in-person at the Olympia Evergreen campus site, or any other NPP off campus site during Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and in person for 3 weekends (Saturday and Sunday) a quarter at the Evergreen Longhouse each quarter.

Job Expectations

Most faculty will teach in full-time, team-taught, 16-credit programs connected by a particular theme or line of inquiry. Faculty are generally responsible for evaluating 25 students/quarter, though their programs may include up to 50-75 students, depending on the size of their teaching team. This arrangement allows for in-depth, interdisciplinary and experiential learning, and the building of strong learning communities. Faculty are also responsible for advising students as they reflect on their learning process, develop a pathway of study, and formulate their own areas of concentration.

Our teaching is student-centered, which means we are interested in helping students develop strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaborative work. Because over 80% of our students come from underserved and marginalized groups, we are particularly invested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity and equity, that provide opportunities for challenge and growth, and that foster a learning environment where all are welcome and all can learn from each other.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in Native American and Indigenous Studies, the humanities, or relevant fields of study.
• Ability to teach online (using Canvas) and in-person modalities.
• 2 years' experience teaching at the college level and/or successful experience working with tribal and Indigenous students and communities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Native American and Indigenous Studies or a humanities field.
• 3 years working with Native American and Indigenous student populations in education.
• 5 years' experience teaching at the college level.
• Record of peer-reviewed scholarly publication.

Conditions of Employment

• As a condition of employment, persons hired must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of beginning work.
• Prior to an official offer of employment, a Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct form must be submitted to the college per RCW 28B.112.080. The college will contact current and past employers to verify this information. Applicants who provide inaccurate information in their declaration will be disqualified and, if the inaccuracies are discovered after the applicant has been hired, it shall be grounds for termination.

Full time/Part time Part Time Salary Information $3709-$8361 per 4 credits; $6364 at median EY of 20. Faculty membership is unranked with salary determined on a non-competitive, open scale based on earned degrees and years of relevant experience.
