National Purchasing Manager – Commercial Division

Location: Charlotte, NC | Atlanta, GA | Orlando, FL | Fort Lauderdale, FL | Dallas, TX | Chicago, IL
Salary: $120,000 – $140,000 Base Salary + Performance Bonuses + Full Benefits

Our client, a highly respected and rapidly growing national leader within the construction supply and industrial distribution industry, is looking for an exceptional National Purchasing Manager to lead and elevate their Commercial Division purchasing team.

This is a rare opportunity for a dynamic leader who is passionate about people, thrives in fast-paced environments, and knows how to build high-performing teams while driving operational excellence. The right person for this role genuinely loves developing people, creating accountability, improving performance, and leading from the front.

This is not a “sit behind a desk” leadership role. Our client is looking for someone who is hands-on, collaborative, highly engaged, and willing to jump on a plane at a moment’s notice to support branches, strengthen relationships, and help teams succeed. While travel is not extensive, visibility and presence matter. They want a leader who shows up for their people.

About the Opportunity

The Commercial Division is one of the company’s largest and fastest-growing business sectors, supporting commercial construction, industrial, MRO, and packaging channels across the United States. This role will oversee purchasing operations nationally while leading a team responsible for inventory performance, supplier relationships, operational execution, and purchasing strategy.

The organization is currently evolving, modernizing systems, implementing new operational initiatives, and building stronger KPI-driven processes. This is an opportunity to step into a highly visible leadership role where your ideas, leadership style, and ability to develop people will directly impact the future growth of the business.

This is truly a people leadership-first role. Our client is looking for someone who genuinely enjoys building teams, developing talent, creating accountability, and driving operational excellence through strong leadership, mentorship, and collaboration.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a national purchasing team within the Commercial Division
  • Build a strong culture of accountability, collaboration, urgency, and continuous improvement
  • Coach and grow purchasing professionals while helping teams reach KPI and operational goals
  • Drive purchasing performance including inventory turns, fill rates, forecasting, aged inventory reduction, and supplier management
  • Partner closely with sales leadership, branch teams, operations, and suppliers across the country
  • Help create structure, implement SOPs, improve onboarding, and strengthen purchasing processes
  • Support organizational growth initiatives, operational transformation, and ERP enhancements
  • Travel periodically to support branch teams, strengthen relationships, and ensure operational success
  • Serve as a strategic leader while remaining approachable, hands-on, and team-focused

What Our Client Is Looking For

  • Proven leadership experience within purchasing, procurement, supply chain, inventory management, or distribution operations
  • A true people leader who enjoys coaching, mentoring, motivating, and developing teams
  • Someone who leads with humility, collaboration, and accountability (no ego, politics, or “used car salesman” mentality)
  • Strong operational mindset with experience improving processes, KPIs, and team performance
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting priorities
  • Experience within construction supply, industrial distribution, MRO, building materials, or related industries is highly preferred
  • Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills
  • Willingness to be present, visible, and supportive to teams across the organization
  • Someone who understands that leadership means doing what it takes to support the business and the people behind it

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Highly visible national leadership role with direct impact on business growth
  • Opportunity to lead and shape a growing commercial purchasing division
  • Legacy organization with a strong reputation, national footprint, and long-term stability
  • Executive leadership team that values collaboration, accountability, and operational excellence
  • Strong culture centered around teamwork, relationships, urgency, and execution
  • Opportunity to build stronger teams, improve systems, and leave a lasting impact
  • Competitive compensation package including performance bonuses and full benefits
  • Long-term growth opportunities into senior operational and supply chain leadership roles

The Ideal Candidate

You are a people-first leader who genuinely enjoys coaching, mentoring, and helping teams grow. You know how to create accountability while still earning the trust and respect of the people around you. You lead by example, communicate well, and know how to bring teams together to drive results.

You are proactive, solutions-driven, highly organized, and energized by building high-performing teams and strong operational processes. You thrive in fast-paced environments, embrace change, and are excited by the opportunity to help shape and improve a growing purchasing organization.

You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and jump in when needed. Whether that means supporting a branch, helping develop a team member, partnering with sales leadership, solving operational challenges, or hopping on a plane to strengthen relationships and support the business - you show up and lead from the front.

Most importantly, you are humble, collaborative, team-oriented, and motivated by making a real impact within an organization that values leadership, culture, execution, and long-term growth.
