    JOB SUMMARY

    This position performs duties in support of the maintenance of university buildings and facilities.

    MAJOR DUTIES

    Assists in the maintenance and repair of Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, Conveyance, and Life Safety systems associated with University buildings and other facilities.

    Assists in the repair and maintenance of Building exteriors and interiors, including, but not limited to, roofs, windows, doors and flooring.

    Maintains a clean and safe work environment.

    Assists other personnel in the performance of repair and maintenance tasks as needed.

    Maintains assigned tools and equipment.

    Performs related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

    Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical maintenance and repair.

    Knowledge of department policies and procedures.

    Skill in diagnostic troubleshooting.

    Skill in the operation of job-related tools, vehicles and equipment.

    Skill in oral and written communication.

    SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

    The Building Mechanic Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

    GUIDELINES

    Guidelines include building codes and university policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

    COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

    The work consists of related building maintenance duties. The variety of tasks to be performed contributes to the complexity of the position.

    The purpose of this position is to assist in building repair and maintenance duties. Success in this position results in safe and well-maintained buildings.

    CONTACTS

    Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students, vendors, and members of the general public.

    Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to provide services.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

    The work is typically performed in an office or stockroom, in a variety of university buildings, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

    SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

    None.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.

    Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

    Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
