N2 Licensed Operator Union County, NJ

The N2 Licensed Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of treatment systems. This position monitors treatment processes, performs routine maintenance, collects samples, maintains operational records, and ensures all systems operate within environmental and regulatory requirements. The operator works independently and as part of a team to optimize system performance, troubleshoot equipment issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives. N2 certification is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor treatment systems, including pumps, filters, tanks, chemical feed systems, and control equipment.

• Perform routine inspections of treatment equipment, meters, gauges, valves, and instrumentation.

• Collect water samples and conduct field testing to verify treatment effectiveness and regulatory compliance.

• Monitor and adjust treatment processes, chemical dosing, flow rates, and system parameters as required.

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, piping, valves, motors, and treatment equipment.

• Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions to maintain system performance.

• Maintain accurate operational logs, inspection reports, sampling records, and compliance documentation.

• Coordinate laboratory sample submissions and maintain chain-of-custody documentation.

• Ensure compliance with all environmental permits, discharge limits, company procedures, and regulatory requirements.

• Manage chemical inventories, deliveries, storage, and safe handling procedures.

• Participate in emergency response activities and on-call rotations as required.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment and comply with all health and safety policies.

Qualifications

• N2 Operator License (or equivalent provincial/state certification).

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical or environmental education preferred.

• 2–5 years of experience operating treatment systems.

• Knowledge of treatment processes, chemical handling, sampling techniques, and process control.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized monitoring/control systems.

• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

• Ability to work independently, maintain detailed records, and communicate effectively with clients, regulators, and team members.
