About the Role

R.H. Batterman & Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced Municipal Design Project Manager to lead meaningful public works and infrastructure projects. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of projects from planning through construction while mentoring staff and building long-term client relationships. The successful candidate will join a stable, respected civil engineering firm with over 107 years of history.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple municipal and civil engineering projects from concept through completion.
  • Lead projects involving municipal infrastructure, public works, water and sewer systems, stormwater, site development, and community improvements.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, within budget, and consistent with client expectations.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, work plans, and deliverables.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal clients, public officials, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned municipal clients and communicate clearly with stakeholders.
  • Delegate assignments effectively and provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to engineers and designers.
  • Provide technical leadership and quality control by reviewing calculations, plans, specifications, reports, and estimates.
  • Coordinate projects across internal disciplines, surveying, environmental services, and external consultants.
  • Prepare and review construction documents, technical specifications, cost estimates, and bid documents.
  • Support permitting, regulatory coordination, agency communication, and project approvals.
  • Participate in client, public, pre-construction, and progress meetings.
  • Assist with proposals, RFPs, RFQs, fee development, and project pursuits.
  • Provide construction administration and engineering support, including review of submittals, RFIs, pay applications, and change orders.
  • Conduct or support field observations to evaluate existing conditions and project progress.
  • Apply practical constructability and field experience to engineering and design decisions.
  • Identify project risks and resolve technical, scheduling, budget, and coordination challenges.
  • Maintain project documentation to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 3+ years of municipal design, civil engineering, or related project management experience.
  • Strong background in municipal and civil engineering design.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, schedule, budget, communication, deliverables, and quality.
  • Proficiency with CAD/BIM software, with Civil 3D experience preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, client-facing, and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of municipal infrastructure design, engineering standards, permitting, specifications, cost estimating, and construction documentation.
