Multi-Axis CNC Machining Programmer & Setup Specialist
A day in the life
You start by reviewing the day’s builds: reading prints, confirming geometric tolerances, and loading programs you have proven out in G-code. You set fixtures and workholding, select the right cutters and inserts, and bring an HMC or VMC cell online—often a Makino—so the first piece meets spec. As parts run, you watch cycle health, review CMM reports, and make real-time offset tweaks. You keep a keen eye on robotic load/unload cycles, adjusting robot parameters when needed to keep flow steady and safe.
Throughout the shift, you document setups, tool changes, and any adjustments so repeatability is guaranteed. You verify part dimensions with calipers, micrometers, and both variable and attribute gauges. When equipment, robots, or process hiccups appear, you troubleshoot calmly, escalate promptly when required, and implement corrective actions. You help operators learn better setups and practices, drive 5S standards, and maintain part identification and traceability from machine to shipping. Every decision is grounded in IATF 16949 quality system expectations and MIOSHA safety requirements.
