Job Summary
Interstate Power Systems is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to support high horsepower pumping equipment in the oilfield services sector. This position is based out of our Cheyenne, Wyoming facility and focuses primarily on MTU frac pumps (L64 Natural Gas and T95/S83 Diesel Engine) as well as cement pumps, mud pumps, and associated power ends. The successful candidate will perform scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and major repairs in the field (customer locations, yards, and remote well sites) with occasional shop work.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose, repair, and maintain various types of equipment, including trucks, workover rigs, frac equipment, generators, and other heavy machinery.
Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and compliance with safety standards.
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
Change out fluid-end expendables under field conditions safely and efficiently
Troubleshoot and repair engine issues on associated power units (Cat C27/C32, Cummins QSK45/QSK60/HSK78G, MTU 2000/4000 series)
Operate service trucks with crane, air compressor, and tooling in all weather conditions
Complete detailed service reports, parts lists, and warranty documentation in real time using mobile tablet
Maintain a clean and organized service vehicles and inventory
Respond to emergency call-outs 24/7 on a rotating on-call schedule
Work safely in high-pressure environments and adhere to all customer and company safety policies (H2S, confined space, fall protection, etc.)
Required Qualifications
3+ years of hands-on experience maintaining or repairing MTU, CAT, Cummins engines in oil & gas (frac fleet experience highly preferred)
Strong mechanical knowledge of Weir SPM QWS/L64, TWS/T95, and S83 triplex/quintuple pumps (or equivalent Kerr, Gardner Denver, Halliburton, etc.)
Experience with cement pumps (Halliburton, BJ, Schlumberger twin pumps) and/or mud pumps a plus
Familiarity with Caterpillar, Cummins, and MTU diesel engines (2000–4000+ hp range)
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, hydraulic schematics, and drawings
Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain/maintain CDL with clean driving record
Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and DISA/PEC Safeland certification
Willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and be on-call
Preferred Skills & Certifications
Factory-trained on Weir SPM or NOV pumping equipment
Cat ET / Cummins INSITE diagnostic experience
Fluid end certification or documented rebuild history
Current CDL Class A or B
Forklift / overhead crane experience
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 75+ lbs repeatedly
Work in weather extremes (Wyoming winters / summer heat)
Climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces
