Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:

Join Our Team as a Mosquito Control Maintenance Worker! The Mosquito Control Division is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team. As a Mosquito Control Maintenance Worker, you will engage in essential maintenance tasks that directly contribute to the health and safety of our community. Your responsibilities will include:

• Perform maintenance work requiring the utilization of specific skills associated with drainage maintenance and the application of pesticides for mosquito control.

• Remove objects from work areas that impede drainage; bush and grade ditches to maintain efficient water runoff; apply larvicide to areas harboring mosquito larvae and pupae, avoiding the potential to harbor and reduce mosquito populations; apply adulticides in areas with known high levels of mosquito activity.

• Apply herbicide to areas where vegetation obstructs proper drainage; cut/ clear trees and heavy brush to gain access to drainage areas; mix and apply chemicals per specifications on the label for field applications

• Lift materials and other items to 50 lbs. regularly.

• Applicants will be required to obtain and maintain either a Registered Technician’s License or Category 8 Pesticide Applicator’s License within six (6) months of employment

A valid driver’s license is required.

Position is ALPHA I and is required to work during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes, snow, etc.) and/or in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

A pre-employment physical is required – This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including termination.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Preferably six (6) months of experience in field such as laborer, maintenance, or construction worker utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have a current and valid driver’s license. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. This position may require that incumbents wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, or other designated safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employee’s supervisor based on position assigned. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination. Must have or obtain a valid Registered Technicians License within six (6) months of hire.
