Description

Lead Mold Tooling Engineer

Lead and manage the mold tooling function, including toolmakers and mold design engineering personnel. Drive design-for-manufacturability (DFM) reviews to identify potential manufacturing risks and recommend design improvements. Develop, review, and approve tooling concepts and injection mold designs for complex molded components and assemblies. Provide technical leadership on tooling strategies, including gating, cooling, venting, surface finishes, slides, lifters, and other mold actions. Partner closely with product development and engineering teams to ensure products are optimized for manufacturability, cost, quality, and performance. Collaborate with domestic and international tooling suppliers throughout design, build, qualification, and troubleshooting activities. Support new product introduction projects and ongoing manufacturing operations. Lead tooling-related problem solving, yield improvement initiatives, and engineering change activities. Establish tooling best practices and mentor team members to support continuous improvement and technical excellence. Ensure tooling solutions align with quality, regulatory, and business requirements.

The successful applicant will have 10+ years of experience in mold design, tooling engineering, toolmaking, or a related discipline. An associate's degree or higher in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience is required. Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software, ideally SolidWorks. Extensive experience conducting DFM analyses and tooling feasibility assessments. In-depth knowledge of injection mold design, tooling construction, and manufacturing processes. Experience supporting regulated manufacturing environments, ideally within medical device or healthcare-related industries. Ability to work effectively with both internal stakeholders and external manufacturing partners. Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills. Experience with global suppliers and manufacturing operations is highly desirable. Previous toolmaker experience or significant shop-floor exposure would be advantageous. Familiarity with validation and qualification processes within regulated industries is a plus. Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
