The R&D Model Maker is responsible for product development and sustaining duties as assigned and described below: The individual is expected to work closely with engineers and other team members to achieve project goals. Machining of parts with or (sometimes) without detailed drawings constitutes a large portion of the job, but the Model Maker may be asked to contribute to both the technical specifications and design approach for new products in a team environment. The Model Maker will work on the development and refinement of prototype mechanisms. Detailed drawings will be supplied to the Model Builder for parts to be machined or fabricated. The individual is expected to participate in the fabrication and sometimes in the design of products that are cost effective and meet or exceed the overall specifications established. In addition, the individual is expected to contribute in the following areas: manufacturing support, value engineering, and product improvement. The Model Maker must possess excellent problem-solving skills and is expected to keep up with advances in his/her areas of expertise.
