    Position Overview

MOD42 is seeking a 3D CAD Designer to join its engineering team in Buffalo, New York. This role will develop the coordinated three dimensional models and production-ready drawings used to manufacture, assemble, and install complete modular data center systems.

This is a product and manufacturing-focused design position, not an architectural design role. The designer will model the full module, integrating mechanical, electrical, and structural components into one accurate and buildable design. The specific design platform is still being evaluated, so MOD42 is open to candidates with strong experience in Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD 3D, Revit, or comparable three dimensional CAD or CAD CAM software. The ability to understand how systems are fabricated, assembled, connected, and installed is more important than experience with one specific program.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain detailed three dimensional models of complete modular data center assemblies, including mechanical, electrical, and structural systems.
    • Translate engineering concepts, sketches, specifications, equipment data, and markups into accurate, coordinated, and production-ready models and drawings.
    • Produce fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, shop drawings, equipment layouts, sections, elevations, bills of materials, and installation details as required.
    • Incorporate equipment dimensions, connection points, routing, tolerances, service clearances, access requirements, and fabrication constraints into each design.
    • Coordinate across mechanical, electrical, and structural disciplines to identify clashes, fit issues, missing information, and constructability concerns before production.
    • Work directly with engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, procurement, and field teams to ensure designs can be efficiently built, transported, installed, and serviced.
    • Participate in design and production reviews, clearly communicate questions or conflicts, and revise models based on approved decisions and feedback.
    • Develop and maintain reusable components, templates, libraries, standards, and naming conventions within the selected design platform.
    • Maintain drawing accuracy, revision control, and consistent documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
    • Support the evaluation and implementation of the three dimensional modeling platform and workflows that best fit MOD42's manufacturing environment.

      Required Qualifications

      • Three or more years of hands-on experience producing detailed three dimensional models and fabrication, manufacturing, assembly, or construction drawings.
      • Experience with industrial equipment, modular construction, manufacturing, fabrication, MEP systems, or another environment where designs must translate directly into physical production.
      • Proficiency in at least one three dimensional CAD or CAD CAM platform, such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD 3D, Revit, or a comparable system.
      • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, equipment submittals, schematics, and technical documentation.
      • Working knowledge of how mechanical, electrical, and structural systems are fabricated, coordinated, assembled, and installed.
      • Ability to recognize clashes, tolerance concerns, clearance issues, access limitations, and other conditions that could affect manufacturing or installation.
      • Strong attention to detail, organization, revision control, and documentation accuracy.
      • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate closely with engineers, tradespeople, production teams, and field personnel.
      • Ability to work full time on site with the engineering team in Buffalo, New York.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Experience modeling complete products, equipment skids, modular assemblies, prefabricated systems, or other multidisciplinary industrial packages.
      • Background with HVAC equipment, piping, ductwork, electrical distribution, controls, cable routing, structural steel, or related building systems.
      • Experience developing bills of materials, fabrication details, production packages, or assembly instructions.
      • Experience supporting data centers, mission-critical infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, or other technically complex facilities.
      • Experience helping a growing organization establish modeling standards, libraries, templates, and repeatable design workflows.
      • Associate degree, technical certification, apprenticeship training, or equivalent practical experience in drafting, design technology, manufacturing, engineering technology, construction, or a related field.

      Compensation

The anticipated base salary range is $65,000 to $130,000. The final offer will reflect the candidate's experience, technical proficiency, manufacturing knowledge, and ability to independently model complete multidisciplinary modules. Highly specialized or extensively experienced candidates may be considered outside the anticipated range. This is a permanent position directly employed by MOD42. The GOR Group is MOD42's authorized recruiting partner.
