    Be the technician who keeps critical fleets moving

    Custom Truck One Source (CTOS) builds, rents, sells, and services specialized trucks and heavy equipment for the nation’s leading utility, telecom, construction, forestry, oil, and rail companies. In this mobile role, you’ll bring your expertise to customer sites to diagnose, repair, and maintain complex equipment — keeping essential infrastructure projects on schedule.

    What a day in the field looks like

    You start your morning with a call from the Service Manager reviewing the day’s assignments. With manuals and service bulletins at your fingertips and your laptop connected to diagnostics, you head to customer locations to:

    • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair truck chassis and tracked/vehicle-mounted aerial devices, digger derricks, cranes, hi-rail units, and related equipment to dealer/factory standards.
    • Interpret service manuals and repair orders; use diagnostic software and test equipment for precise evaluation.
    • Diagnose and repair LMI (Load Moment Indicator) systems and CAN bus networks.
    • Perform electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting on utility trucks and specialty equipment.
    • Complete adjustments and repairs both in the field and at the service center; road test to verify fixes.
    • Document work thoroughly: inspection findings, labor time, parts usage/costs, and timecards.
    • Tag and manage warranty and core components for return.
    • Immediately flag scope changes — additional work, unnecessary tasks, or timeline impacts — to the Service Manager.
    • Follow all CTOS safety practices; participate in company and OEM training.
    • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste handling and disposal.
    • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to minimize downtime.
    • Travel outside your regular coverage area when business needs arise.
    • Partner closely with the Service Manager to elevate customer satisfaction and service quality.

    Qualifications you’ll bring

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • 5+ years of related technician experience (both shop and field).
    • Valid Class A or B CDL.
    • Personally owned tools appropriate for the role.
    • Comfort using software for documentation; reliable with deadlines and schedules.

    Preferred know-how

    • Electrical, schematic/blueprint reading, hydraulics, and welding.
    • Experience with QuickServe, DTNA, or similar diagnostic applications.
    • Familiarity with DOT, ANSI, and dielectric testing.

    Physical demands and work environment

    • Regular outdoor work in wet/humid conditions; occasional exposure to extreme heat/cold; moderate to loud noise.
    • Professionalism, positive attitude, and consistent, on-time attendance.
    • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull; bend and stoop; lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Comfort working at height and performing manual labor.
    • Manual dexterity for tools and test equipment.

    Tools, tech, and equipment you’ll handle

    • Diesel-powered vehicles and systems, including aftertreatment (DPF/DEF) from Detroit Diesel and Cummins.
    • Cranes (Manitowoc, Terex) and boom cranes.
    • Boom trucks (Terex, Elliott, Load King, National Crane).
    • Digger derricks (Terex) and aerial devices (Versalift).
    • Hi-rail and refuse trucks; PTO systems.

    Core proficiencies

    • Heavy equipment repair.
    • Diesel engine systems (light- and heavy-duty).
    • Integrated diesel/heavy equipment systems.
    • Electrical systems and diagnostics for heavy equipment.
    • Aerial and utility equipment systems.
    • Active CDL.
