Job Summary:

The Mobile Reefer Technician is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and inspections tasks on refrigeration trailer units (reefers) to ensure they are safe, efficient, and roadworthy. Primary duties of this role include travelling to customer locations for on-site maintenance, diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and structural issues, repairing or replacing damaged components, conducting routine inspections, and providing expert recommendations on reefer upkeep. The Mobile Reefer Technician uses specialized tools and equipment to perform repairs on various trailer types, such as compressor replacements, vacuum and charging system repairs, routine maintenance and more. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of refrigeration systems, problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform repairs independently. This position is safety sensitive.

Duties/Responsibilities: 

• Perform on-site diagnostic services, repairs, and maintenance on refrigeration units, including compressor replacements and vacuum and charging system repairs
• Verify unit performance by diagnosing faults physically and via downloads
• Determine unit condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests to identify worn and/or damaged parts
• Correct system deficiencies by removing, repairing, and adjusting faulty components
• Maintain equipment by completing preventative maintenance, installing component and parts upgrades, and controlling erosion
• Consistently maintain cost by using warranty and evaluating services and repairs
• Create work orders and accurately document all work performed and parts listed
• Monitor and maintain parts inventory on the service truck
• Ensure customer satisfaction by completing repairs to a high standard and provide customer service when addressing concerns or answering customer questions
• Complete work orders in accordance with SOPs
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development
• Adhere to all safety standards and SOPs during all repair activities, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and hearing protection

Required Skills/Abilities: 

• Mechanical expertise and technical skills
• Strong understanding of tools and specialized equipment used in reefer maintenance
• Strong carpentry, welding, and/or fabrication skills
• Advanced knowledge of refrigerated trailer systems, including Carrier and ThermoKing trailers
• EPA 608 and 609 certifications preferred
• Understanding of DOT regulations
• Basic proficiency with computer systems
• Safety awareness
• Strong customer service skills
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Must have a valid driver’s license and remain insurable

Education/Experience:

• Three to four years of reefer maintenance and repair experience and/or training
• Experience in the trailer/transportation industry

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and crawling in confined spaces
• Manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools
• Ability to work at heights using lifts and ladders
• Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds

• Service truck and outdoor environment
• Regular exposure to outside weather conditions
• Exposure to loud noise, vibration, dust, grease or oil, and fumes or airborne particles
• Frequent travel to and from customer location
