    Description:

     First Response Rail Service, Inc. is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Mobile Railcar Repair Technician who will travel to customer locations in a company-owned Freightliner service truck to inspect, maintain, and repair railcars. This position combines hands-on mechanical and welding work with the safe operation of a commercial vehicle. 


      Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

    • Safely operate a Freightliner service truck to and from customer sites, rail yards, and repair locations. 
    • Perform mobile inspections, maintenance, and repairs on freight railcars. 
    • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs. 
    • Repair or replace railcar components, including brake systems, couplers, draft systems, doors, handrails, safety appliances, and related equipment. 
    • Perform welding, cutting, grinding, fabrication, and mechanical work as assigned. 
    • Load, secure, transport, and maintain tools, equipment, materials, and repair parts. 
    • Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. 
    • Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection forms, repair records, and service documentation. 
    • Follow all DOT, FRA, OSHA, customer-site, and company safety requirements. 
    • Use proper personal protective equipment and maintain a clean, organized service truck and work area. 
    • Respond to emergency or after-hours mobile repair calls when required. 
    • Communicate professionally with customers, supervisors, dispatchers, and other employees. 
    • Perform other railcar repair and operational duties as assigned.
    Requirements:

      Qualifications 

    • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an acceptable driving record. 
    • Must meet all applicable DOT medical and commercial-driving requirements. 
    • Previous railcar repair, diesel, heavy-equipment, industrial maintenance, welding, or mechanical experience preferred. 
    • Ability to safely operate a Freightliner service truck and related equipment. 
    • Welding and fabrication experience preferred. 
    • Ability to read work orders, inspection reports, safety procedures, and basic technical documents. 
    • Must be dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently in the field. 
    • Must be willing to travel and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. 
    • Ability to pass all required background checks, drug screenings, and customer-site requirements.

      Physical Requirements 

    • Regularly stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull. 
    • Frequently lift and carry tools, parts, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds; heavier lifting may require assistance. 
    • Safely enter and exit commercial vehicles and access rail equipment. 
    • Work around moving equipment, uneven surfaces, loud noise, welding fumes, and changing weather conditions. 
    • Wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, and welding protection.
