Mobile Field Technician | Long-Term Contract | New Jersey
We are seeking an experienced mobile network cable technician with strong structured cabling expertise to support field service operations across southern and central New Jersey. The ideal candidate has five years of data communications experience; candidates with slightly less experience and substantial hands-on cabling experience may also be considered.
· Contract: Long-term contract with possible extension and/or conversion based on performance and business needs.
· Work model and territory: This is a mobile technician role. Candidates must be local to New Jersey and able to cover an approximately two-hour radius around South Jersey, including Mercer, Burlington, and Ocean counties and the Moorestown area. Mileage and drive time are paid beginning at the first site.
· Schedule: Field dispatch work is generally Monday through Friday or Saturday and primarily during daytime hours. Some night work may be requested for projects or incident support after client sites close. Candidates must be available for weekend project work when requested and for a rotating weekly on-call schedule. Advance notice is provided whenever possible.
· Pay: $26–$28 per hour.
· Manage day-to-day service operations for the installation, delivery, and deployment of technical resources within the assigned territory.
· Maintain a customer-focused environment centered on anticipating, identifying, and resolving issues. Document issues, action plans, outcomes, and distribution within the area of responsibility.
· Perform technician work, proactively remove barriers to meeting customer expectations, support root-cause analysis and action-plan development, follow through on issue resolution, and escalate concerns when appropriate.
· Support project planning and tracking, including resource planning and allocation and task delegation to achieve project goals and objectives.
· Install and service low-voltage, fiber-optic, and communications cabling and related equipment, including Category 3, Category 5, Enhanced Category 5, Category 6, and fiber-optic structured cable distribution systems.
· Measure, install, and pull wiring through conduit for required circuitry.
· Evaluate, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, and expand cabling infrastructure systems to improve functionality and usability.
· Patch cabling between network equipment and customer networks, and install power cables from equipment to power supplies in racks, cabinets, and closets.
· Physically install, configure, and test network assets in network closets and data center cabinets, including switches, routers, firewalls, network tools, and testing devices.
· Install or replace devices such as phones, computers, cables, boards, edge routers, and switches.
· Complete complex Move, Add, and Change (MAC) requests within defined service levels.
· Serve as a liaison between customer associates and management, provide hardware break-fix services for network infrastructure, and use appropriate troubleshooting methods to address network performance issues.
· Maintain the data network and related equipment in optimal operating condition; perform network closet cleanup, switch-port optimization, and site surveys as needed.
· Perform onsite call-through, data, voice, website, and security testing; support carrier circuit testing.
· Assist with facilities-related needs, including restoration of power and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) service and response to water-related issues.
· Perform backup testing to verify that all systems are connected to the customer network as directed.
· Perform field installation, configuration, service, preventive maintenance, and decommissioning of advanced services, including wireless systems.
· Install and maintain Wi-Fi systems, wireless routers, roof-mounted antennas, and related infrastructure used to provide wireless communications across client networks and computing environments; perform incidental and preventive maintenance on Wi-Fi equipment.
· Coordinate with North American Commercial Services (NACS) Operations team members to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
· Keep operations management informed about procedures and work-order status to support decisions, appropriate action, and compliance with OSHA regulations.
· Complete required documentation in written and electronic formats according to company standards, including time reporting for billing and payroll, work-order progress and completion, and time-and-material reporting for client service-level agreements.
· Request equipment and supplies as needed to maintain inventory and ensure required items are available.
· Respond to emergency situations during or after normal business hours to resolve immediate client concerns and meet service-level agreements.
· Transport tools, equipment, supplies, and other materials required at client sites.
· Attend meetings, workshops, training sessions, and seminars to share or gather information needed to perform job duties.
· Meet performance targets established by leadership for applicable key performance indicators.
· Perform other duties as assigned by management.
· Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle capable of transporting a six-foot ladder.
· Working smartphone with access to company email and the company ticketing system.
· Basic cabling and technician tools.
· Ability to use a laptop and email, with basic knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications such as Word and Excel.
· Proficiency with technical tools, including cable and fiber testers.
· Experience working in communications closets.
· Ability to lift heavy objects safely.
· Understanding of cable-patching processes and procedures and familiarity with 66-block and 110-block cross-connect procedures.
· Basic knowledge of data communications networking, network terminology, IP phones, and troubleshooting practices.
· Strong interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues in terms customers understand and translate customer-reported issues into information that enables technicians to facilitate resolution.
· Five years of experience in data communications preferred; candidates with slightly less experience and strong hands-on cabling expertise may be considered.
· Basic knowledge of Cisco phones, switches, and routers.
· Basic knowledge of local area networks and wide area networks.
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
