    Description

    POSITION PURPOSE

    This position is responsible for the ultrasonic testing of steel plate per written work instructions and as directed by the UT Shift Coordinator. It is also responsible for the reporting of all UT results, working directly with shipping, and other members of technical services. This position will also assist Shipping and Finishing on an as-needed basis for inspections and ID corrections.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Be familiar with the scope and limitations of each method and technique for which the individual is certified
    • Prepare written instructions (but cannot authorize their use without Level III approval)
    • Set up and calibrate equipment and perform the NDT tests they are certified to conduct
    • Interpret and evaluate results with respect to applicable codes, standards, and specifications
    • Organize and report the results of nondestructive tests
    • Train and guide trainee personnel
    • Set up, operate equipment, and analyze and report results of Phased Array Supplemental Techniques
    • Maintain NDT equipment and report any deficiencies or items in need of repair to the UT Shift Coordinator so they may be resolved

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Competencies and Experience

    Required

    • Ability to successfully complete classroom and OJT training hours required for UT Level II-Limited certification exam
    • Ability to pass UT Level II-Limited certification exam within the required timeframe
    • Strong computer skills
    • Good written and verbal communication skills

    Preferred

    • Background in NDT techniques
    • General understanding of Trigonometry

    Education

    Required:

    • High School diploma or equivalent

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES / DIRECT REPORTS

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities

    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    The employee will be required to sit, stand, and/or walk as follows:

    • Sitting 1 hour at a time; average 3 hours a day
    • Standing 1 hour at a time; average 2 hours a day
    • Walking 1 hours at a time; average 7 hours a day
    • Alternate sitting and standing as needed throughout the 12 hour shift.

    The position requires the following talking, vision and hearing capabilities:

    • Talking person to person and on the phone
    • Hearing in person and on the phone
    • Vision at close, midrange, and at a distance
    • Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

    The position requires the following pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying capabilities:

    • Push, pull, lift, and/or carry items weighing 50 pounds or less approximately 240-500ft as required for maintenance and/or calibration of equipment

    The employee will occasionally be required to:

    • Balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch
    • Twist at waist level
    • Feel with both hands together or separately; sense temperature and textures with both hands together or separately

    The employee will frequently be required to:

    • Reach at Waist/desk level and below waist level
    • Fingering with both hands together or separately

    The employee will constantly be required to:

    • Handle, grip, hold, and grasp with both hands together or separately

    The employee will be required to work in the following conditions: (While wearing safety equipment and/or clothing for protection from hazards)

    • Inside/Outside
    • In Extreme hot and cold conditions
    • In Wet and humid conditions
    • Around equipment in motion
    • Amid noise
    • Amid mechanical, electrical, chemical, and industrial magnets hazards

    POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

    • Position is full time, non-exempt, and is eligible for overtime
    • Position works (12) hours a day
    • Less than 33% travel by driving
