Job Description

Summary

As the Fitness Floor Lead student staff member, students will conduct daily supervision of all Fitness Floor Spaces (Jungle Gym, Cardio Gallery, Pump Room and Outdoor Fitness) with the assistance of the Fitness Coordinator. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution abilities. This individual must be able to respond quickly and independently to all medical and weather-related emergencies.

Duties

  • Enforce all MizzouRec guidelines and policies.
  • Monitor and help facilitate use of the fitness floor spaces.
  • Responsible for building security and operation during assigned opening and closing shifts which include, but are not limited to working independently of a coordinator during early morning/evenings/weekends/holidays, monitoring facility cleanliness, exterior status and operation, and ensuring spaces are ready for programming and rentals.
  • Maintain a high level of guest interaction and respectfully handle all requests and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide immediate response/leadership in emergency situations.
  • Maintain shift-to-shift communication with Aquatics, Sports & Competition, Membership, Fitness, Climbing Wall, and Facility Operations staff as needed.
  • Access and record participation volume on an hourly basis for all facility areas
  • Train and coach all front-line staff on emergency response situations.
  • Assist in frontline training and development.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Alert appropriate staff of needed equipment repairs.
  • Document accidents and incidents appropriately.
  • Set-up/take down equipment as needed (i.e. badminton/volleyball nets, etc…).
  • Perform all duties as described on the shift checklist.
  • Be available to work early morning, late evening, weekend, and various academic/holiday break periods.
  • Must apply knowledge of facility operations to each shift and communicate with peers on shift as spaces/staff are impacted.
  • Create an open and collaborative environment for your team and guests.
  • As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve the customer and maintain the MizzouRec mission.
  • Adhere to all Team Mizzou guidelines and non-negotiables.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $15.65 per hour - bi-weekly pay.

Grade: GGS

Average hours per week: 10

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required if the student was enrolled in the Spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester. Selection is contingent upon results of a review with the Office of Institutional Equity, Office of Student Accountability & Support, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, previous MU appointment history, and reference checks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service-related position.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to work two consecutive semesters.
  • Current American Red Cross AED/CPR/First Aid certification
