Position Summary

The Mining Instructional Coordinator will report to the Director of Mining and will be responsible for training and providing non-credit instruction to students and/or business and industry. Job duties include assisting with operations of the mining department by planning, scheduling, and developing courses.

Salary: Appropriate placement on Bevill State Community Colleges Local Salary Schedule: C3, Rank: 01 $79,247-$107,177

Work Hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide training and teach classes and/or labs as assigned. Classes/labs may be scheduled during the day, evenings, or weekend and at any Campus/instructional site deemed necessary.
  • Responsible for traveling to instructional sites and other locations as needed to support training, instruction, equipment demonstrations, and other program-related activities.
  • Responsible for assisting the Director in coordinating and scheduling all training including logistical distribution of training statewide and nationwide.
  • Assist students as an advisor in developing class schedules, program planning, and career counseling.
  • Maintain safe practices in the classroom and laboratory by keeping areas clean and abiding by all safety procedures that apply to an area.
  • Review and recommend revisions of curriculum periodically based on relevant business and industry standards and needs.
  • Adhere to prescribed procedures in all financial operations of the division.
  • Maintain all records as needed for the mining department.
  • Participate in college wide committees.
  • Assist in enforcing all college policies.
  • Participate in the planning and budgeting processes of the division.
  • Comple and dispense necessary reports in a timely manner.
  • Assist in enforcing all college policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the coordination for the institutional effectiveness plan.
  • Attend all campus, college, and statewide meetings as required.
  • Assume all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent is required; Associate degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of industrial and/or mining maintenance and repair experience is required. Preference given to appliance with experience focused on Electrical, Welding, Diesel, Hydraulics and Mechanical systems.
  • Possession of current MSHA 30 CFR §§75.153/77.103 Electrical Certification Card is required.
  • Completion of a formal mining industry 12-18-month maintenance training program is required.
  • Documented working experience repairing and troubleshooting mining equipment, electrical components, and systems is required.
  • Documented working experience repairing and troubleshooting mining equipment hydraulics, pumps, pneumatic and mechanical systems is required.
  • Documented experience of operating heavy-duty mining equipment and tools is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in SMAW and GMAW welding processes in various AWS weld positions.
  • Knowledge in MSHA Qualified Diesel training and experience in mining diesel engine maintenance and repair
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional conduct in dealing with students. staff, administration, faculty, and the college community.
  • Demonstrated expertise in subject areas.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to deal effectively with diverse students, other employees, and the public.
  • Documented evidence in the proficiency of use current educational technologies in the classroom including internet, e-mail, and computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Sick Leave

All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. Tuition Assistance

This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.

Employees/Dependents at two-year colleges:

  • 1/3 waived after 1st year
  • 2/3 waived after 2nd year
  • 3/3 waived after 3rd year
