Mill Production Equipment Diesel Mechanic (Shop and Field)

Your Mission

Work under the direction of the Shop Supervisor to keep sawmill and production equipment operating. You will diagnose, repair, and prevent failures while partnering closely with operations to reduce downtime.

In This Role, You Will

• Install, maintain, and repair sawmill machinery and production systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical breakdowns quickly and safely.
• Execute preventive maintenance and inspections to ensure reliability.
• Verify safety and operational efficiency through thorough equipment inspections.
• Record service details accurately and track parts usage.
• Collaborate with operators to plan and complete work efficiently.
• Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout.

You Bring

• Age 18 or older.
• 1–3 years of experience repairing heavy equipment.
• Working knowledge of hydraulics, diesel and gas engines, and electrical wiring.
• Ability to independently diagnose and repair mechanical issues.
• Capacity to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently.
• Your own basic hand tools suitable for this position.
• Reliable attendance and a strong safety orientation.

Bonus Points

• Heavy equipment mechanic background, ideally with sawmill or forestry machinery.
• Strong capability in diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
• Track record of independent troubleshooting and repairs.
• Experience with welding and fabrication.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
• Ability to operate in outdoor and industrial environments.

Work Conditions

Expect an industrial plant setting with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and moderate-to-high noise levels. You will regularly lift and move equipment components, tools, and materials up to 50 pounds. The role involves exposure to outdoor temperatures, weather, wood waste/dust, oils, and lubricants. Physical activities include standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stair climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and working in tight or confined spaces and awkward positions to access and repair machinery. Visual demands include close and distance vision and depth perception.

Schedule

Swing shift: Monday–Thursday, 1:30 PM–12:00 AM. We are open to discussing shift and hours.
