Engagement Overview
Our client is seeking an Azure Migration Engineer who will work closely with our Engineering Services(supports Azure Environment), DBA, development, and DevOps teams to assess, plan, and execute the migration while providing technical leadership and best-practice guidance throughout the project.
Scope Overview
- Migrate approximately 40–50 production applications and websites from on-premises virtual machines to Azure, including containerization using Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) where appropriate.
- Migrate and modernize approximately 30–40 scheduled jobs and services, including recommendations on target platforms such as Kubernetes CronJobs, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and SQL Agent.
- Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines utilizing Azure DevOps and GitHub. (We currently utilize GitHub Enterprise Server.)
- Coordinate the migration of a large number of SQL Server databases to Azure and/or new SQL Server environments in partnership with our DBA, development, and engineering teams.
- Provide architecture guidance, migration planning, governance recommendations, and operational best practices to establish a secure, scalable, and supportable Azure environment.
Desired Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience with:
- Azure landing zones, Cloud Adoption Framework, governance, and Azure Policy
- Hybrid networking including ExpressRoute, VPN, hub-and-spoke design, private endpoints, and DNS
- Identity and access management including Entra ID, managed identities, AKS workload identity, and RBAC
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
- AKS, Docker, Helm, ingress controllers, Azure Container Registry, and GitOps (Flux and/or Argo CD)
- Windows containers and legacy .NET Framework/IIS application containerization
- Application portfolio assessment and migration strategies (rehost, replatform, or refactor)
- Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, SQL Server, Azure Database Migration Service, compatibility assessments, and cutover/rollback planning
- SSIS and SQL Agent migration
- Security services including Defender for Cloud, Key Vault, and container image scanning
- Monitoring and observability solutions including Azure Monitor, Container Insights, Application Insights, and Log Analytics
