    Description

    Middle School Special Education Teacher for Academic and Communication Enhancement program. The successful candidate will teach substantially separate classes, write IEPs and progress reports, complete evaluations, co-teach, and oversee teaching assistants. Training in applied behavioral analysis and designing rigorous curricula for students with complex needs is preferred.

    Oversight of student programs:

    • Serve as Case Manager and primary contact for parents and teachers associated with assigned students' special education program, including special education service providers
    • Oversee assigned caseload of students'' IEPs and provide assigned content area consultation and collaboration on behalf of students with disabilities
    • Communicate student disability-related needs and IEP requirements to teachers, counselors, nurse, and building staff
    • Act as point person for all parent communication relating to special education
    • Formally and informally monitor and report on student progress in identified goal areas, including check-ins weekly with all service providers and 2-3 times per quarter with general education teachers

    Implementation of IEP:

    • Coordinate support services with specialists (speech/language, occupational therapy, physical therapy, etc.)

    oCreate and oversee system for progress monitoring of goals and objectives

    • Determine instructional methods and materials to be used in direct service instructional time (Resource Room and Co-Teaching)
    • Plan lessons and provide direct instruction/support as determined by scheduled responsibilities, including Co-Teaching

    Regulatory compliance:

    • Conduct student assessments (informal, formal, initial and 3 year evaluations) and generate written reports
    • Responsible for the development of student IEP and coordination of related paperwork and Team recommendations
    • Support grade and building level transitions
    • Implement strategies for transition planning and disability awareness as appropriate to the student's age in accordance with District policy.
    • Maintain a system of caseload record keeping (student files, phone log, IEPs)
    • Participate in Team meetings, special education department meetings, building and district meetings as required
    • Maintain familiarity of regulations and policies related to special education
