Substitute Teacher – Hourly Position

Position Summary

Mater Biscayne Academy is seeking dependable, enthusiastic, and dedicated Substitute Teachers to provide classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of regularly assigned teachers. Substitute Teachers play an essential role in maintaining a safe, structured, and positive learning environment while ensuring continuity of instruction and adherence to school policies and procedures.

This is an hourly, as-needed position, with assignments based on school staffing needs and availability. Hours and assignments are not guaranteed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise students and maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
• Implement lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher.
• Maintain classroom management and enforce school rules, expectations, and disciplinary procedures.
• Monitor student attendance and accurately report attendance information.
• Provide assistance and guidance to students as needed throughout the instructional day.
• Ensure students remain engaged in assigned academic activities.
• Follow established school safety procedures, emergency protocols, and administrative directives.
• Communicate student behavioral concerns, classroom incidents, or instructional issues to school administration.
• Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
• Perform additional supervisory duties as assigned by school administration.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• No college degree required.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience working with school-aged children or in an educational setting preferred.
• Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to follow instructional plans and school procedures.
• Dependable, punctual, flexible, and professional.
• Ability to work effectively with middle and high school students.
• Must meet all applicable employment and school personnel screening requirements.

Employment Requirements

All applicants selected for hire must successfully complete the following mandatory pre-employment screenings:

• Drug Screening: Successful completion of a required drug screening.
• Fingerprinting and Background Screening: Successful completion of fingerprinting and all applicable criminal history and background checks.

Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of all required screenings and verification of employment eligibility, in accordance with applicable laws and school policies.

Work Schedule and Compensation

• Employment Status: Hourly, as-needed position.
• Schedule: Assignments are scheduled based on school needs and substitute availability.
• Compensation: Hourly rate established by the school.
• Work Location: On-site at Mater Biscayne Academy.
