Middle School Cheer Coach

Wayne-Westland Community Schools is located in the metropolitan Detroit area, between Ann Arbor and Detroit. Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 10,000 students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Livonia, Garden City, Dearbor n Heights, Inkster, and Romulus. The Wayne -Westland Community School district is comprised of ten elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). We also have an early childhood center , an ultra -modern facilit y for care er/technical training, an alternative high school, and a thriving online program.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned Organize and direct the overall specific sport program at the school. Responsible for the inventory, distribution, collection, and appropriate maintenance of the school's athletic equipment in her/his sport during the season. Provide the school's principal and athletic director with an acceptable, written copy of her/his team rules prior to the beginning of the season. Distribute, prior to the first team practice session, a copy of the team rules to each athlete. Shall not allow any athlete to practice or play until s/he has received, from the athlete, a properly executed physical examination form and the Athletic Responsibility Acknowledgement form. Follow all of the established school and league rules pertaining to her/his sport. Understand and follow all of the rules established by the Michigan High School Athletic Association, Inc. (MHSAA) and the Wayne-Westland Community School District. Accompany her/his team to all away contests by riding with the team on the team bus (or by providing appropriate adult bus supervision in the event s/he is unable to ride the bus on a particular date). The coach must have prior approval of the principal or athletic director when not riding the team bus. Directly supervise and control her/his athletes at both home and away contests.
Properly secure the school facility after each practice or contest. In addition, s/he shall make sure that no athlete is left unsupervised or unattended during or after any practice or contest. Shall not allow any individual without a properly executed school district coaching contract rider to coach or otherwise direct any members of her/his team. Knowledge of general first aid procedures and possess a valid CPR/First Aid certificate. Coaches of swimming shall also possess a valid lifesaving certificate. Follow all directives from her/his school administrators and/or athletic director. Responsible for the safety and well-being of her/his athletes. Behave in an exemplary manner at all times. Follow all guidelines and procedures established by the district with respect to her/his team in the event the athletic program is sponsored all or in part with an activities fee; and/or should the athletes be required to purchase medical insurance. Shall not improperly socialize with her/his athletes, nor transport athletes in her/his personal vehicle. Arrange all team transportation through her/his athletic director. Uphold the Bill of Rights for Young Athletes and conduct her/himself in accordance with the MHSAA's Athletic Code for Coaches.
QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the gym. The employee will be required to frequently use hands, arms, legs and body to demonstrate proper techniques required for the sport. The employee will frequently communicate with students, staff, and parents and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Employee must fulfill all requirements of the pre-employment process.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with students, staff and occasionally with the public. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students and staff.
EVALUATION: Job performance is evaluated in accordance with district guidelines.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Meet a minimum of 4 days a week for a minimum of one and a half hours each time.
Work Week: Weekly hours worked may include planning meetings and/or practice, travel, events and/or games, and student study table. There is no expectation for average weekly hours to exceed 29 hours; therefore, position is ineligible for benefits.
