Position Details

ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION: One (1) part time middle & high school athletic director.

GENERAL STATEMENT: The Athletics Director position is essential for the most effective and efficient coordination of athletic and interscholastic sports activities for students attending the schools of the district. This is regarded as an administrative/non-bargaining unit position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS from an accredited university or college.
  • Secondary coaching experience and experience in school administration are preferred.
  • MIAAA participation or similar athletic associations are also preferred.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be responsible for the efficient execution of all school policies applying to the athletic program. Follows and understands all MHSAA/NFHS policies, rules and regulations.
  • Fosters good school-parent relations by maintaining communication relative to rules, regulations, and sportsmanship in athletics.
  • Be responsible for scheduling all athletic student contests after consultation with coaches involved.
  • Responsible for the organization, scheduling and transportation needs of district athletic events.
  • Contract officials for interscholastic events.
  • Maintain eligibility rosters of interscholastic teams and make sure of MHSAA compliance in all matters, including but not limited to complete and collect physical forms all required reporting to MHSAA (ex: rosters, eligibility, coaches, CPR/1st Aid, concussions, etc.)
  • Schedule adequate numbers of supervisors, ticket sellers and takers for all athletic events.
  • Be responsible for monies collected through the sales of tickets for athletic events.
  • Prepare a budget for the total interscholastic program and assist in generating revenue for the sports programs.
  • Represent the school district at all athletic meetings.
  • Evaluate and update athletic policies, including athlete grade performance.
  • Arrange for and ensure that athletic sites are safely prepared for contests.
  • Assists in selecting, assigning and evaluating all district athletic coaching personnel.
  • Hold coaches meeting(s) prior to the start of season(s) (either one for all sports or one each season.)
  • Maintain updated information (ex: athletic schedules, pictures, coaches, etc.) on the school website.
  • Address athletic medical exam schedule and/or appointments and address injury as necessary or required following state and health department guidelines, including all components of the Athletic Trainer program.
  • Be responsible for equipment, jerseys, supply, maintenance, current storage, and inventories- including school keys.
  • Order athletic awards and schedule award programs and arrange all printing of programs for events.
  • Continually strive for the improvement of the total athletic program.
  • Provide oversight of the WICS weight room and all its related policies and programs.
  • Attend Booster Club meetings.
  • WICS Great 8 Games representative.
  • Oversees the youth basketball program.
  • Leads efforts to nominate members to the athletic Wall of Fame and leads an induction ceremony.
  • Oversees athletic banquets.
  • Manages usage of athletic facilities.
  • Attends MHSAA Athletic Director in-service and updates meetings annually.
  • Promotes teams and athletes in the media and pep assemblies.
  • Reviews email communications regularly and responds as needed.
  • Any other Activities & Athletic duties related to West Iron County Schools programs assigned by the principal and/or superintendent.

SUPERVISES: Any assigned staff, coaching personnel, and volunteers.

REPORTS TO: Principal & Superintendent

EVALUATION: Performance of the job will be evaluated according to current laws (AD Evaluation Frameworks)

START DATE: As Soon As Possible

PAY BENEFITS: Per negotiated contract. Salary and benefits to be determined by education level and years of experience. Salary range from $8,000-$11,000 plus additional game manager payments ($55 for middle school & $75 for high school events).
