Position Overview

The Technical Architect will serve as the manager of complex technology implementations, with an eye toward constant reengineering and refactoring to ensure the simplest and most elegant system possible to accomplish the desired need. This individual will understand how to maximize leverage of the open source community to deploy systems on Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) providers, be comfortable sharing knowledge across a multi-disciplinary team and working within various methodologies, and be a full partner in the determination of vision, objectives, and success criteria.

The Technical Architect will architect the overall system through prototyping and proof of concepts utilizing modern programming languages, web frameworks, databases, configuration management tools, continuous integration/deployment practices, and monitoring solutions. This role will ensure strategic alignment of technical design and architecture with business goals, support multi-team development efforts, develop product roadmaps and backlogs, establish measurable success criteria, and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex technology implementations.
  • Drive continuous reengineering and refactoring initiatives.
  • Utilize open-source technologies and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platforms.
  • Share knowledge across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in establishing vision, objectives, and success criteria.
  • Architect systems using prototyping and proof-of-concept methodologies.
  • Work with modern programming languages including Ruby, Python, and Node.js.
  • Utilize web frameworks such as Django and Rails.
  • Develop solutions using HTML5, CSS3, RESTful APIs, Twitter Bootstrap, and jQuery.
  • Design and support relational databases such as PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases including Cassandra and MongoDB.
  • Implement automated configuration management using Chef, Puppet, Ansible, and Salt.
  • Support continuous integration, deployment, and monitoring solutions.
  • Utilize version control systems including Git and GitHub.
  • Ensure technical architecture aligns with business growth and direction.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies.
  • Decompose business and system architecture to support clean-interface, multi-team development.
  • Develop product roadmaps, backlogs, measurable success criteria, and user stories.
  • Establish paths to delivery by breaking down user stories.
  • Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders at every level.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed designs.
  • Develop JBOSS Messaging and Spring-JMS connectivity.
  • Design database schemas aligned with requirements and existing systems.
  • Implement daily and weekly jobs that interact with external interfaces.
  • Coordinate with business stakeholders to gather and understand requirements.
  • Communicate with cross-divisional personnel at both team and executive levels regarding performance measurement methodologies.
  • Direct team members in compiling business requirements and executing project milestones.

  • Implementation and administration of Always On Availability Groups.
  • High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions for SQL Server 2016 and above.
  • Deployment and management of Azure SQL.
  • Deployment and management of Azure Managed Instances.
  • Deployment and management of SQL Server on Amazon EC2.
  • Deployment and management of AWS RDS for SQL Server.
  • SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA).
  • Database Migration Assistant (DMA).
  • Cross-platform conversions and migrations involving Microsoft SQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases.
  • Database migrations between on-premises data centers and Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) monitoring solutions.
  • Backup and recovery strategy execution.
  • PowerShell scripting and workflow automation.
  • Database security patching using SCCM, WSUS, or Tanium.
  • Architecture diagram creation and procedure documentation.
  • Collaboration with customers, project stakeholders, and vendors.

Required Experience

  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in systems development, analysis, programming, or testing.

Additional Required Experience

  • 10 years of experience performing Microsoft SQL Server installations, configurations, security, encryptions, patching, monitoring, and administration.
  • 5 years of experience managing enterprise Microsoft SQL Server farms consisting of 300+ servers.
  • 5 years of experience developing automation scripts for Microsoft SQL Server administration using Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, or similar tools.
  • 5 years of experience migrating and upgrading Microsoft SQL Server to supported versions.
  • 3 years of experience performing Microsoft SQL Server cloud migrations from on-premises environments.
  • 3 years of experience managing Azure SQL or SQL Managed Instances.
  • 5 years of experience architecting, configuring, and managing Microsoft SQL Server Always On Availability Groups (AG) and High Availability (HA)/Disaster Recovery (DR) environments.
  • 5 years of experience performing SQL Server backup and recovery utilizing Commvault, SQL Server Management Studio, or similar tools.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in an IT-related or Engineering field.
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Additional Education

  • Azure Fundamentals or higher certification.
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or higher certification.
  • Microsoft Professional certification.
  • Professional Google Cloud certification.
