Role: Microsoft Fabric Consultant

Position Type: Contract | 2-3 Month Engagement

Location: Portland, OR | Hybrid onsite support as needed (2-3 days per month preferred)

Compensation: Hourly rate dependent on experience and expertise

MUST currently reside in WA/OR - non local candidates will not be considered at this time

Position Summary

Seeking an experienced Microsoft Fabric Consultant to help design, optimize, and mature an enterprise BI and data platform strategy. This consultant will work closely with internal BI and DevOps teams to assess the current environment, refine architecture and governance practices, and help build scalable data solutions within Microsoft Fabric.

The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, with deep expertise in Microsoft Fabric, modern data architecture, pipeline engineering, governance, and BI transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assess current BI and Microsoft Fabric environments
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations on BI architecture and platform strategy
  • Design and optimize Microsoft Fabric environments and workloads
  • Develop and improve Fabric data pipelines and engineering processes
  • Advise on cost optimization and platform scalability
  • Establish and recommend data governance best practices
  • Help define standards for structured vs. unstructured data usage
  • Recommend data warehousing approaches across Fabric and related platforms
  • Collaborate with internal teams on active BI modernization initiatives
  • Contribute to updating and refining the BI roadmap
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to internal teams

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Fabric
  • Strong expertise in enterprise BI and modern data platform architecture
  • Experience designing and building scalable ELT/ETL pipelines
  • Knowledge of Fabric Lakehouse, Warehouse, and semantic modeling concepts
  • Experience with data governance, security, and environment management
  • Strong understanding of structured and unstructured data strategies
  • Experience optimizing cloud data platform performance and cost
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a consulting capacity
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Power BI and Azure data technologies
  • Experience supporting BI roadmap and modernization efforts
  • Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD practices for data platforms
  • Consulting experience within enterprise environments
