What You'll Do:

The Public Health Laboratory is seeking a Microbiology Supervisor 1 to manage the development and implementation of whole genome sequencing for the Lab. This position requires thorough knowledge of microbiology, microbiological

laboratory techniques and testing procedures, and supervisory principles/techniques in order to provide daily supervision of laboratory scientists assigned to the section. The Microbiology Supervisor 1 will be responsible for overseeing the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical activities of the sequencing section. The laboratory sequences the following public health priorities:

• SARS-CoV-2
• Bacterial foodborne illness (i.e., Salmonella, Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes)
• Antimicrobial-resistant hospital-acquired pathogens (i.e., Klebsiella, Acinetobacter)
• Influenza
• Cryptosporidium
• Measles
• Streptococcal pathogens
• Mycobacterium tuberculosis
• Newborn Screening

Additional Duties include:

• Attend scheduled section meetings
• Keep abreast of recent developments in the field
• Maintain continuous professional contact with physicians, laboratories, hospitals, clinics, and local health

departments (LHDs) concerning tests performed and their results

• As assigned, work in other areas of Microbiology as work priorities and outbreak situations develop
• Assist with outreach to outside laboratories, academic institutions, and other partners to develop relationships and

networks to support personnel development

• Leads development of section's specific response to federal grant opportunities, facilitating, monitoring, and reporting on progress of grant workplans

Unusual Working Conditions:

Candidates must be vaccinated for Hepatitis-B and will be exposed to biofluids and tissue, sharps, caustic or toxic chemicals, and/or explosives; may work varying hours and must be able to provide own transportation.

VACCINATED: Proof of Hepatitis-B vaccination due before first day of work (do NOT provide, until directed to do so)

NOT VACCINATED: Qualified candidates NOT yet fully vaccinated for Hepatitis-B must be able & willing to receive the vaccination. We can provide it at no cost (post-hire) and temporarily limit your work duties to prevent exposure.

• Or completion of undergraduate core program in microbiology AND 18 mos. exp. as microbiologist AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in employee training & development.
• Or 6 mos. exp. as Laboratory Scientist 3, 83293.
