    Metals Handling & Press Support Specialist

    Location: Grandville, MI

    Reports To: Production Manager

    Works With: Production, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Tool Room, Scheduling, Material Handling, Purchasing

    • Can you navigate Plex transactions with accuracy and speed?

    What you'll handle

    • Receive, inspect, move, store, and stage steel coils to align with production needs.
    • Verify coil thickness, width, and condition; reconcile all receiving documents.
    • Execute Plex transactions to receive, transfer, reweigh, retag, stage, or reject coils.
    • Maintain exact IDs, tags, weights, system locations, and paperwork for every coil.
    • Pre-stage coils for scheduled jobs; assist with coil changes and press setups to cut downtime.
    • Keep the steel bay organized—remove banding/debris and complete daily 5S.
    • Support Engineering with coil strips for tryouts; help Quality by sorting/reworking product per instructions and required rates.
    • Pitch in on facility tasks such as trash, cardboard, and scrap hoppers when needed.

    Safety first

    • Complete daily equipment and safety checks.
    • Report unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, damaged material, and repair needs immediately.
    • Maintain current forklift and overhead crane certifications.

    What you bring

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Must be able to read and write in English.
    • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
    • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds independently; frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, and climbing.
    • Capability to operate material-handling equipment safely for a full shift.

    Where you'll work

    • Busy manufacturing environment with continuous noise and moving equipment.
    • Exposure to dust, grease, moisture, fumes, strong odors, chemicals, heated tanks, and temperature changes.
    • Potential exposure to cuts and burns—strict safety adherence is required.
    • Occasional outdoor weather exposure.

    How you'll be measured

    • Safe, consistent operation of forklifts, overhead cranes, crane scales, and related equipment.
    • Completion of Steel Handler training (Form O3055) and demonstrated skills to the Team Leader.
    • Proficiency in Plex: receiving, container moves, tag creation/reprint, weight adjustments, and coil rejection.
    • Accuracy of receiving details, coil IDs, weights, tags, locations, and documentation.
    • On-time staging/delivery of steel; reduced material-related downtime.
    • Correct use of measuring tools and handling procedures.
    • Steel bay cleanliness, organization, and daily 5S results.
    • Maintenance of current forklift and overhead crane certifications.

    Travel

    Minimal travel required.
