Summary:
The MES Engineer Level I supports the reliable, compliant operation, implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and related manufacturing automation systems. The role assists with requirements gathering, technical troubleshooting, system testing, documentation, and plant projects while developing foundational expertise in manufacturing processes and automation. The position works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, IT, and other cross-functional teams to resolve technical and operational issues. This is an entry-level role performed under supervision, with increasing responsibility as technical knowledge and experience develop.
Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and use of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and related process automation systems.
- Support Manufacturing and other departments in resolving equipment breakdowns, quality issues, and automation-related problems.
- Troubleshoot and analyze manufacturing equipment and process automation systems, including process data analysis and code review.
- Assist with planning and execution of plant projects involving MES, automation changes, equipment modifications, and process improvements.
- Execute test scripts, including design, simulation, and wet testing, under guidance from supervisors or experienced team members.
- Participate in technology transfer activities for new processes and support integration of new processes into the facility.
- Support deviation investigations, Root Cause Analyses (RCA), and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) activities as an MES/automation representative.
- Review and revise MES, automation, and manufacturing documentation, including SOPs, functional specifications, and work instructions.
- Complete change request activities and lot assessments to support project completion and compliant lot release.
- Follow applicable cGMP, safety, site, quality, and documentation requirements.
- Complete all required training and perform work safely.
Required Skills:
- Technical communication and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams at various organizational levels.
- Ability to gather, evaluate, and interpret technical information to identify key issues, relationships, and potential solutions.
- Engineering and manufacturing problem-solving skills with the ability to establish cause-and-effect relationships.
- Structured troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment, MES, and process automation systems.
- Ability to analyze process and equipment data, including PI data, to support troubleshooting and technical investigations.
- Understanding of technical procedures, SOPs, functional specifications, test scripts, and work instructions.
- Ability to support software/system testing, simulation, and implementation activities under supervision.
- Ability to learn manufacturing processes, equipment, automation technologies, and MES applications.
- Ability to work effectively in a regulated cGMP environment while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and documentation.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments.
- Ability to work collaboratively while receiving supervision and guidance on new assignments.
