Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Mentor Development Specialists. Working under the Coordinator of Educator Growth and Development, the successful candidate will serve as a mentor and district liaison, supporting new teachers and providing direct mentoring and professional support to first, second, and third year non-tenured teachers. This position plays a critical role in strengthening new teacher induction, improving teacher effectiveness, and increasing retention across the district. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership and decision-making skills while in this role.

This is an hourly position without benefits funded through the Title IIA grant, with a maximum of 22 hours per week.

DUTIES:

  • Train and support teachers in instructional strategies, classroom management, and curriculum alignment.
  • Model effective teaching practices and behavior intervention strategies.
  • Complete professional development in mentoring and implement mentoring models with assigned teachers.
  • Collaborate with site administrators and district leaders to align mentoring efforts with school and district goals.
  • Facilitate professional development for new teachers.
  • Serve as a mentor to first, second, and third year non-tenured teachers.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of the New Teacher Academy and seminar courses.
  • Communicate regularly with the Coordinator of Educator Growth and Development.
  • Prepare and distribute materials to support mentoring and induction programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all mentoring relationships.
  • Maintain accurate time sheets and program related records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Has obtained, or is eligible for, a Maryland Advanced Professional License.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the appropriate level.
  • Knowledge of current trends in education including the Maryland College and Career Standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional growth.
  • Knowledge of the instructional improvement process.
  • Knowledge of mentoring strategies.
  • Excellent human relations skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and data-driven instruction.

SALARY: Salary based on the Negotiated Agreement Between The Board of Education of Dorchester County and The Dorchester Educators - Teachers bargaining unit. The position is hourly at the Title IIA grant rate of $35.00 an hour. There are no benefits other than salary for this position.

Per the Memorandum of Understanding between the Board of Education and the Dorchester Educators Teacher Bargaining Unit, this part-time position should not exceed 15 - 22 hours per week.
