    Part Time position, 7A-7P

    Position Purpose

    The ED Mental Health Tech (MHT) role is designed to provide a holistic and compassionate approach to patient safety by supporting patients experiencing behavioral health or psychosocial crises. The MHT works collaboratively with members of the ED treatment team and external departments in a direct patient care capacity.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Direct one-to-one observation of patients in the ED, while documenting the patient's condition during monitoring

    • Assist with crisis intervention by utilizing approved de-escalation and calming techniques as appropriate

    • Participates in mitigating the safety of patients experiencing psychosocial crises and their physical environment

    • Immediately escalating safety or patient behavioral concerns to ED nurses, providers, or other colleagues including security personnel

    • Provide emotional support with calming techniques when appropriate

    Education/License/Certification Requirements

    Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements:

    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

    • Strong problem-solving/critical thinking skills with a collaborative approach

    • Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain composure in stressful situations

    • Sitting for extended periods of time with frequent standing, walking, bending, and stooping

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent

    • Previous behavioral health experience preferred

    Credentials/Licensure:

    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

    • Current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training certification from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or ability to obtain certification and maintain annually
