As a valued member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, the Mental Health Technician provides direct behavioral health support to clients in an acute care setting. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment while supporting clients through daily care, crisis intervention, and treatment engagement.

Key Responsibilities
Safety & Client Monitoring
Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for clients and staff
Conduct routine safety checks, including Q15 rounds, one-to-one observations, and contraband monitoring
Identify and report clinical or environmental risks promptly
Complete all required safety documentation accurately and timely
Client Admissions & Orientation
Assist nursing staff with client admissions and intake procedures
Inventory personal belongings and complete admission documentation
Orient new clients to unit expectations, schedules, and procedures
Therapeutic Client Support
Build professional, therapeutic relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries
Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques during behavioral crises
Apply Handle With Care interventions when trained and appropriate
Support clients with activities of daily living and emotional support needs
Group Facilitation
Facilitate evidence-based psychoeducational and skills-based groups aligned with treatment goals
Accurately document attendance and participation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
Visitation Coordination
Supervise and monitor client visitation activities
Ensure all required consents and documentation are completed
Communicate visitation concerns to the charge nurse as needed
Clinical Support Duties
Obtain and document vital signs as delegated by nursing staff
Assist with discharge planning, crisis planning, patient education, and follow-up care coordination
Monitor and document nutritional intake and report concerns appropriately
Documentation & Compliance
Complete incident reports, safety documentation, and all required records according to organizational standards
Participate in mandatory trainings, team meetings, and supervisory sessions
Support unit operations and additional shift responsibilities as assigned
