This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center, 250 Dewey Ave, Spartanburg, SC 29303.

Under limited supervision of School Mental Health Coordinator, employees will direct School Mental Health services. Therapist will provide a therapeutic program, including prevention and early intervention with youth at risk for social, emotional, behavioral, and/or academic difficulties in designated Spartanburg County Schools in District 5. Increase collaborative efforts between SAMHC, the School Districts, and Community organizations involving all in the implementation process. Provides services in a culturally sensitive manner. Assist direct supervisor with the task of increasing public awareness and appropriate utilization of School Mental Health.

Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I:

  • Provide Assessment, individual, Group, and Family Therapy services, as well as intake and ongoing assessments to child, adolescent, and adult SAMHC patients. Develop, implement monitors and modify treatment programs. Provide case management and ancillary service.
  • Adhere to all Corporate Compliance, Outcome Evaluation, Research, and Continuity of Care Policies and Procedures. Maintain documentation of clinical services in accordance with State/Center Quality Assurance standards.
  • Attend and participate in required/mandated trainings, supervisory sessions, department general staffings, interagency staffings, treatment team meetings, and other scheduled meetings as required by school and Mental Health Center.
  • Provide consultation, education and prevention strategies to families, school personnel, etc. relating to community mental health issues. Develop and implements training for staff.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A masters degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensure is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of normal and abnormal behavior adjustment techniques.
  • Knowledge of methods, principles and practices of clinical counseling and education services.
  • Ability to organize and maintain a caseload.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Additional Comments

Post hire, employees must:

  • Successfully complete the Basic Fundamentals course with a minimum grade of 75.
  • Be able to pass CPR and Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) Certification.
